Box 637, Ligonier, PA 15658 - (Tel.: 412-834-0169) MAY/JUNE, 1986 To Members and Friends of the Hungarian Eighth Tribe Foundation: Our thanks to you for renewing your Membership, for your Donations, and for your support to further the work of the Hungarian Eighth Tribe Foundation. We would also like to welcome our new members. It has now been five months since the Eighth Hungarian Tribe magazine, now known as the Hungarian Heritage Review, has been published by Rákóczi Press-International, Union. New Jersey. We ask that you send your subscription renewals for 1986 to their address: P.O. Box 2203, Union, New Jersey 07083, not to us. We only handle correspondence concerning' the Bethlen Press, the Hungarian Eighth Tribe Foundation, Donations to the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, and Book orders advertised by us. After the change in ownership of the Eighth Hungarian Tribe magazine, we felt that it was our Moral Obligation (an attitude not practiced by many) to finish the Mag/ar Reader and the collection of donations for the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation. Since we considered every subscriber as an unofficial member of the Foundation, all former subscribers have been receiving the Newsletter with the lessons. Since 4 pages of the lessons are included in this issue, only 2 pages remain for the July-August issue. We have notified Mr. Nicholas Korponay, president of Rákóczi Foundation and Rákóczi Press-International, that after completion of the Magyar Reader lessons, we will send the Newsletter only to the Members of the Foundation. We are in no way in competition with the Hungarian Heritage Review, as the Hungarian Eighth Tribe Foundation does not have the financial resources necessary to publish a full-fledged magazine. * * * For the past eight years we have tried to build the Hungarian Eighth Tribe Foundation into a major organization in the Hungarian-American Community. The results, however, show that we have failed, despite the efforts of many. Presently Membership stands between 400 - 500, but with many husbands and wives having family memberships, we could probably count close to 900 people. A decision about the future of the Foundation has to be made now. From your letters and verbal communications to us, we feel that many of you would like the Hungarian Eighth Tribe Foundation to continue to exist. The name was given to Hungarian Americans in the early 1920s, to our parents, grandparents, and to us, our children and grandchildren. Now that our churches are slowly fading away, many feel that, through the HETF, they still have something that unites them into a family. By August we will be finished with the Magyar Reader and raising donations for the Statue of Libery-Ellis Island Foundation, and the Bumper Stickers will be ready for distribution. With these projects finished, and for personal reasons, I would like to turn the leadership over to a younger person or persons, to continue the Foundation’s work. As mentioned in previous issues, a HETF meeting is being considered for August 30, 1986, here in Ligonier. We realize that many of you cannot attend, but your Input and your wishes would help give guidance to those who do, in planning the future of the Foundation, it’s continuing existence or not. Since the HETF is registered with both the State of Pennsylvania and the Federal Revenue Departments, dissolution of the organization would have to be done according to their regulations. We hope that many of you can attend the meeting in August.
