The lessons given in the Reader have been so prepared that they form a continoDs whole. It follows from this that complete mastery of each and every lesson is an indispensable requirement to satisfactory progress. In other words.

THE -VAL. -VEL ENDING

The -val. -vel, ending, added to a name-word, adds the meaning of with to that wörd. For instance a kutya means the dog. while a kutyával means with the dog, a csirke means the chicken, while a csirkével means with - the chicken. — If the last letter

of a word is a consonant, then the v letter of the -vaL -vel changes into that consonant, for instance, ház - házzal, kabát - kabáttal, kéz • kézzel. Words ending in -val, -vei, answer the question with what? with whom?

the words and the simple rules given in each lesson must be fully mastered before the study of the lesson next in order is undertaken.

It should also be noted here, that Magyars unfamiliar with the English language, or those wishing to improve their English, may use this Reader with much profit.

The Magyar ü is pronounced as the letter u is pronounced in such words as menu, etude, and sometimes in buffet. In pronouncing the long Magyar ű the same sound is made longer.
