Page 2 THE EIGHTH TRIBE July, 1981 DEDICATION This magazine is dedicated to the Eighth Tribe in America, descendants of the original Seven Magyar Tribes. IFhatever their faith, their familiarity with their ancestral language, or their degree of Hungarian ancestry, we address ourselves to each of them. If this reading is your first acquaintance with “THE EIGHTH TRIBE”, we hope you find it informative and enjoyable and that in time you will become one of our regular subscribers. This magazine is and remains the “LIFE LINE” that keeps us together, that makes us and shapes us into a national Family. THE EDITOR’S CORNER . . . There are times when one gets support from unexpected places; that has happened. The Rákóczi Foundation of Toronto, Canada joined the co-sponsorship list at the Heritage Conference. The Rákóczi Foundation sent $200.00 toward the expenses of the affair. We appreciate this donation, as we know how hard it is to collect that kind of money. Regretfully, we have to tell you that as of this date, none of our national fraternal societies, or individuals, who are capable of underwriting the conference, has put their signature to it. Some people have asked why we are having separate presentations on the diffent parts of Hungary, especially those which are now under foreign rule. Almost fifty percent of us have some hind to these lands through our ancestors. Many times when our parents or grandparents tried to show us on a map where they came from, the comment would always arise: “That’s not Hungary, it is Czccholovakia’’ — or Russia, or Rumania, or Yugoslavia. Then the long explanation starts. It is time that those who were born in' this land learn something about their heritage. On behalf of the Conference, special letters were sent to sixty churches asking the pastors and church councils to send at least two representatives from their churches — we are waiting for their answers. My appreciation to the Nationality Broadcasting Network of Cleveland, Ohio; Miklós Kossányi; his Father; and Ágoston Liver, for the kind reception and interview which was broadcasted over the air on July 11th at 7:00 P.M.. They have promised their continued support to the Eighth Tribe magazine and to the Foundation. Thanks also go to Rev. Louis Illés, of Duquesne, Pa. who is in charge of the Hum garian Reformed Radio Hour on the McKeesport, Pa. station, for having this editor serve as host one Sunday to inform the listeners about the Heritage THE EIGHTH TRIBE Editor ........................................................
