Page 2 THE EIGHTH TRIBE July, 1978 DEDICATION This magazine is dedicated to the Eighth Tribe in America, descendants of the original Seven Magyar Tribes. Whatever their faith, their familiarity with their ancestral language, or their degree of Hungarian ancestry, we address ourselves to each of them. If this reading is your first acquaintance with “THE EIGHTH TRIBE', we hope you find it informative and enjoyable and that in time you will become of our regular subscribers. THE EDITOR’S CORNER More on .. . BETHLEN CULTURAL INSTITUTE The preservation of the American Hungarian Heritage Sándor E. Chomos July 2, 1978 Editor, Eighth Tribe Dear Mr. Chomos: Your editorials are very inspirational, especially the one in the June issue was the best and it should be put into motion in the American Hungarian community. I have admired the Chomos brothers' determination to keep Bethlen Press going, and above all, all of us should be thankful to you for the Eighth Tribe. The life of our church papers are numbered: the Magyar Egyház and the Reformátusok Lapja do not provide enough interest for our young people. I believe our Catholic brethren have no Hungarian related magazine published in English. I earnestly believe the Eighth Tribe is the answer. The national American magazines have religious sections. Why can’t the Eighth Tribe have a section put aside for Church News, where all the churches, Catholics and THE EIGHTH TRIBE Editor ........................................................... In the Eighth Tribe we can achieve our dream: together in one body. We will continue to belong to the Calvin Synod, the Hungarian Reformed Church in America, the Roman Catholic Church, the Greek Catholic Church or to any other denomination in the American church bodies, but in our hearts we will also belong into the family of the Eighth Tribe. Now let me turn to the subject you touched upon in the June issue: Bethlen Cultural Institute or whatever name he under. We all know it is needed. So let us take the big step: create an Eighth Tribe Foundation, let all of us donate toward this project. If our Canadian brethren came up with $300,000.00, we can come up with $500,000.00. To administer and carry on this project there is no other man, in whom we can place our faith, than Sándor E. Chomos. Yes, my friend, you. You should create an advisory board representing all factions. But they are there to advise, not to dictate or override you. While they are representing their respective groups, you are acting in our names. We are relying upon your good judgement to make this project a reality. Your successor should be picked and trained by you. May God grant you many years to carry on this work. I also believe that the Eighth Tribe Foundation should own the Bethlen Press. No disrespect intended toward those who have invested in the Bethlen Press, they should be compensated in the value of their shares in the corporation. Now a final word to all my brethren of Hungarian descent, those who just came in the last 30 years, those of you who have built our churches, our great societies: William Penn Association, American Hungarian Reformed Federation, American Hungarian Catholic Society: and above all those of you, who were born in this great country and still proud of your Hungarian heritage .. . your task is simple ... just dip into your pockets and donate the amount you are able. Together with God’s help we can have a “Hungarian Cultural Institute" a Monument dedicated to our forefathers. Enclosed is twenty dollars to start the Eighth Tribe Foundation. Now you only need 24,999 more individual donations of twenty dollars each. N.N. An American Hungarian
