Meet the New Home Care Administrator Interviewed by Lara Provance, Director of Marketing Meet Denise Hoburn, the new Home Care Administrator for Bethlen Communities. I recently had the opportunity to sit down with Denise, during which she graciously answered all of my questions. Q: What exactly is Home Care, the new service we will be offering at Bethlen Communities? A: Home Care Services gives you the help you need provided by skilled health care professionals to bridge the gap between the more intensive levels of care received in a hospital, nursing or rehabilitation facility and your home. Home Care Services help make the transition safely and confidently. Home Care will help you heal at home surrounded by friends and family while remaining a part of the community. Home Care is intermittent so we do not move in to the patient's home. But we do go to the patient's place residence, whether it is a residential home or a personal care home. Home Care Services must be ordered by a physician. Q: What is the benefit of Bethlen Communities offering this service within our own organization? A: Residents receiving a level of care [other than Home Care] from Bethlen Communities know the name and know the staff. Should they be advised by the physician or hospital to also receive Home Care, they now have the option to stay within Bethlen Communities. It really adds to each individual's freedom of choice, and they may find greater comfort in already knowing the quality of care Bethlen Communities offers. Q: Where would you like to see the new Home Care services go? In other words, what are your goals? A: Typically, Home Care begins in the county; for us, Westmoreland. I would like to see us expand this service to surrounding counties in the future. We will mostly likely start with a geriatric clientele and utilize a nurse and a physical therapist. Eventually, I would like to get OT and Speech staff involved, as well as Social Services and a Home Care aide. This will enable us to provide any type of coverage or service ordered by the physician. Q: Would you mind telling us a bit about your professional experience? A: I began at Albert Gallatin Home Care and Hospice. It's there that I really became familiar with Home Health. From there I continued on to become the Director of Home Care and Hospice at Westmoreland Hospital. I've been an R.N. for over 20 years. Additionally, I have instructed students at Penn State-Fayette and WCCC on various subjects involving nursing and health care. Q: So what are your first impressions of Bethlen Communities? A: I feel truly welcomed. The new home is beautiful and I sense that this is a team-oriented working environment. We are here to help each other. For me, this is a wonderful change On Easter Day Easter lilies! Can you hear What they whisper, low and clear? In dewy fragrance they unfold Their splendor sweet, Their snow and gold. Every beauty-breathing bell News of heaven has to tell. Listen to their mystic voice; Hear, O mortal, and rejoice! Hark, their soft and heavenly chime: Christ is risen for all time. We are Doers of the Word." James 1:22,25 3
