Psalm 103:1-2 Dear Friends and Supporters of the Bethlen Home, As we placed the new calendars on our walls this month, not only did we move officially from one millennium and century to the next, but we also entered the 80th Anniversary Year of the Bethlen Home's life and ministry. In 1921, by the Grace of God and through the movement of His Holy Spirit, the urgent needs of the early Hungarian immigrant families were met and the care giving ministry of the Bethlen Home began, on this beautiful hillside overlooking Ligonier Valley. Psalm 103 is one of several Bible passages that comes to mind as we reflect upon the 80 years. We are certainly filled with joy and thanksgiving as we remember the many good things with which God has blessed the generations of Bethlen Home residents and staff (vs. 5). We are grateful that He revealed His plans to the generations of Bethlen Home leaders and planners (vs. 7). We also praise God for His mercy and His forgiveness. Try as we might to do everything well, as His human children, we often make mistakes and we stray from His paths. But as the Psalm reminds us, "The Lord is merciful and loving, slow to become angry and full of constant love." (vs. 8). And, in this 80th Anniversary Year, the Bethlen Home commits itself anew to be faithful to God's will, "...for those who honor the Lord, His love lasts forever, and His goodness endures for all generations of those who are true to His covenant and who faithfully obey His commands." (vs. 17-18). The residents, staff and Board of Directors of the Bethlen Home invite you to come to Ligonier and help celebrate the Home's 80th Anniversary. Within the pages of these newsletters will be announced the dates of anniversary events and other special projects through which we can all give thanks to God for the Bethlen Home. Whether we are remembering experiences of the past or looking forward to the building project and the new nursing care-assisted living facility, all glory will be given to God! Kedves Barátaink, Otthonunk Támogatói: A hó elején lakásunk falára helyezett új naptár nemcsak azt jelezte, hogy új század, új évezred derült reánk, hanem arra is emlékeztetett, hogy beléptünk a Bethlen Otthon történetének és szolgálatának 80 esztendejébe. A kegyelmes Isten Szent Lelke buzdításával úgy válaszolt a korai bevándorlók nagy szükségére, hogy ezen a gyönyörű-szép, Ligonier völgyére tekintő domboldalon, megindította az Otthon szeretet szolgálatát. A 103. zsoltár egyike azoknak bibliai részeknek, amelyek a 80 évre gondolva, önkéntelenül is eszünkbe jutnak. Szivünk valóban örömmel és hálaadással telik el annak a sok “jó"-nak (5 v) láttán, amelyekkel Isten megáldotta a Bethlen Otthon lakói és munkásai előttünk járt nemzedékeit. Áldjuk, hogy az "O útjait" (7.v) oly csodálatosan "megismertette" azokkal, akik az Otthon tervét megálmodták. Azért is dicsérjük Istent, hogy "könyörülő és irgalmas" (8.v). Mert mi mindnyájan csak emberek vagyunk, akik gyakran vétkeznek és letérnek az Ő ösvényéről. De-mint a zsoltáros vallja - "KönyörülS és irgalmas az Úr, késedelmes a haragra és nagy kegyelmű" (8.v) Szolgálatának 80. évében a Bethlen Otthon újra odaszenteli magát Isten akarata hűséges continued on next page...
