^ctibity Pígljltgíjis A LEGEND OF THE VALENTINE One of the legends relating to the origin of St. Valentine's Day dates back to ancient Roman times, when Christians were cast into jail because of their beliefs. One such Christian was a young bishop by the name of Valentine. During his imprisonment, Valentine missed his loved ones greatly. He spent many hours thinking of them and wishing he could contact them in some way. One day he noticed a small cluster of violets growing within reach of his window cell. He was able to pick them and then wrote the following on the heart shaped leaves, "Remember you Valentine" and sent them by way of a friendly dove. Thus began the custom of sending valentines. It still continues today and is celebrated on February 14th. Send a Valentine this year to someone you love!! ZJT MY FIRST VALENTINE I was nearly nine years old When mother gave me a valentine; Suggesting that I give it to A little pal of mine. It was a day in February, The weather was fair and cool, When I passed it to a girl While on our way to school. Walking in silence by my side With a mittened hand in mine, I kept blushing all the while As she read that valentine. Though years have come and gone I remember how I couldn't speak When she tiptoed up to me, And kissed me on the cheek. I've seen a lot of valentines, And few compare as a rule With one I gave to a girl While on my way to school, At times I see in memory, A pal that once was mine... Remember when as with a blush, I gave away my first Valentine. KING AND QUEEN OF HEARTS' CONTEST Tradition holds that each year when February rolls around, it's time for our King and Queen of Hearts' Contest for Valentine's Day. Prior to the party, several activities will be scheduled for all the nominees to participate in, such as our Kissing Booth and Sweetheart's Luncheon.
