O®OOtfttO MOTHER’S DAY One of the most treasured holidays celebrated in the United States and across the world is Mother’s Day. This is the most busiest holiday for phone service, florists and restaurants. I’m sure many of our residents can recall the many visits from their children and the many treasured gifts they’ve received over the years. The following poems are dedicated to our lady residents. I hope these poems will bring back some fond memories of their childhood and their own mother. MOTHER by Carlce Williams Hands ever busy with something to do, Meals to be cooked for a famished crew, Clothes to be mended and ironed with care, Hardly a time to relax in a chair. Heart ever generous to meet each demand, Tender with love to e’er understand, Eyes ever smiling in spite of some fears, Lips eager to kiss away somebody’s tears. Voice ever gentle to sooth and caress, Imparting contentment to bring happiness, Jewel of Heaven sent from above .. . Such is a mother brimming with love. CORNERSTONES by Eleanor Flock For every home, a cornerstone That keeps the structure strong, The home fires burning warm and bright, With cheerfulness and song. Whene’er you lay a cornerstone, It holds a precious treasure; It is a mother's heart of love Whose worth no man can measure. May is Mental Health Month. Mental health has to do with how we think, feel and act. If we have a positive attitude, feel good about ourselves and others, and act responsibly, we are in Good Mental Health. Self-esteem is a key to Good Mental Health. Mental illness is an illness that can affect anyone. Some of the common mental illnesses are: depression, schizophrenia, manic-depressive illness, eating disorders, alcoholism/drug dependency and anxiety disorders. Studies show that these illnesses are the result of one or more of the following factors: physical problems, genetics, excessive stress, unhealthy family environment, harmful behavior patterns or past experiences. Treatment and help are available by contacting: mental health centers, hospitals, family service agencies, self help groups, family doctor, psychiatrists or psychologists, to name a few services. By building our self-esteem, taking care of our mind and body, learning to deal with stress and seeking help when necessary, we are working toward Good Mental Health. Remember: Seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness!! JHetar^ Corner byEdith Kovacs WE NEED YOUR UNDERSTANDING AND CONCERN: A few months ago, I mentioned our dying pine trees on the two sides of the driveway leading up to the Bethlen Home. According to some old timers, they have reached about 55 to 60 years of age, and first they overgrew then we cut them back about 6 to 7 years ago, now they seem to be losing their needles and have become bare. Maybe the acid rains have something to do with it also, but whatever the cause they have turned bad. It just makes our hearts sad and we don’t want to wait until the road would be like a toothless, neglected area. I received a few kind and helpful letters of which I will be using the suggested ideas to replace the pine trees. Wewould like to buy veryyoung onesand plant them between the grown trees, because, it may be helpful if they grow up in the shadow of an old tree. We will be remembering these young trees, and in our
