Newsletter recognizing the donors who may dedicate his or her donation of $50.00 in the memory of a loved one. We will keep track of each tree donated to us this way, and when they will be purchased, we will show them to the donor. We are planning to get all Blue Spruce pines, because they keeptheirneedlesduring the winter also and help us through the long darker winter days. Furthermore, any good help and advice is appreciated. During the Calvin Synod meetings, I am planning to promulgate this memorial donation plan to the ministers, requesting their kind help in beautifying our Bethlen Home. So I will use all occasions to approach our friends and the families of our residents. I am very sure this year may be the year of rejuvenating our vegetation around the Bethlen Home. Not too long ago, I wrote in our Newsletter that it would be a pampering pleasure of our employees to heat the flannel bathblankets for our residents after taking a shower. I received a few responses and one donation, which is kept while hoping for more responses. Our residents are mostly very old, very weary, always being cold (even when we suffocate of heat), the 110° F water the PA State Department mandates us to use for showers and baths seems to be cold for them and while aides are drying their wet bodies they “freeze”. Some rich hospitals are using heated blankets (postoperative) they feel fantastic. We would be so very happy to do the same, but those heating apparatus are very expensive, the cost of $20,000 each. Since it isa luxurious item in nursing homes, we could afford them only by donation. And we would need two: one on each floor. Do you feel it is too much to dream about? Please tell us your opinion. At least let us know if you think we should stop wishing. Edith Kovács, Dietitian JHeari to JMoart I would like to take this opportunity to “THANK” Reverend Raymond Kaiser and the Hungarian Reformed Church of Dayton, Ohio for their recent outstanding donation to the Activity Department during the holiday season. I was overwhelmed when I received the phone call from Rev. Kaiser telling me that they were going to donate $1,000.00 to our department. At that time, I gave Rev. Kaiser a few suggestions on what we may use the money for. We have finally made the decision that the funds would go toward purchasing specialized blinds for our Solarium. The Solarium is one of the most favored spots for activity programs, parties, family gatherings, etc. in the building. During the early and late part of the afternoon, many patients complain of how terrible the glare is and how much trouble they have seeing. The blinds have been ordered and we are currently waiting for their arrival. Thanks to Reverend Kaiser and the church, every resident will be able to enjoy the new decorative blinds. Please express my appreciation to the members of your church for your continued support, thoughtfulness and love that you have given to our department. A special memorial donation was also made to the Activity Departmentduring the holiday season. Nellie Welty, who is also a volunteer here at the Bethlen Home, graciously donated $1,000.00 to our department in memory of her friend Nellie Izzett, who was also a former resident here at the Bethlen Home. The funds that were donated will be used to sponsor entertainment and parties for our residents. To receive quality entertainment for our residents, the average cost for a band is from $200.00 to $500.00, depending on how many members are in the band and whether or not they're in the music union. The social gatherings and music were always a favorite of Nellie Izzett’s. What better way to keep her in our thoughts than to use the donation through the gift of music. “THANKS” again, Nellie, for your thoughtfulness, endless hours of volunteering, and love to our department and to our residents. We can never'Thank You” enough. During the last Newsletter, several names were accidently missed on the Bazaar donation listing. I apologize for missing any one or group name. This was not done intentionally. “SPECIAL THANKS” to Paul Lamantia, who donated a beautiful fruit basket. Your donation was used as a door prize and the winner was very appreciative. Thanks for adding that special touch, Paul! Many"THANKS”toGizella Modlyforherdonation of Bazaar and flea market items.
