JIRcsthcnt Sc ^taff Profiles by Resilient Susan H'argo Resident Susan Wargo came up with the suggestion of having a column of profiles for the new admissions and new employees. Listed below are several profiles done by Susan. We hope you will enjoy them. Margaret Osvath - Resident Margaret is originally from Hun­gary. Her family were overseers of a large farm which they re­ceived after the 1848 Hungarian Revolution. Her name is an old Hungarian name, and she is the namesake of a king who reigned in 1688. When Margaret came to the United States, she moved to Dayton. Ohio, where she and her husband, along with three children, raised wheat and barley She enjoys reading and always liked to end the busy day by reading a good book to relax. Her weakness, like many, is pastries, especially the cremes and homemade pie. ,Her worst pet peeve is people who don’t tell the truth. JoAnn Schmucker - Staff Member JoAnn has 13 years of service here at the Bethlen Home. She recently has been promoted to Assistant Director of Nursing in the last five years. She is a native of Latrobe; says she’s a Hein? 57 background of Italian, Czechoslovakian and Austrian ancestors. Her parents are living and w'ell, and she enjoys having close family relationships. She has five children and six grandchildren. She is a grad­uate of Latrobe Hospital. She also was the former owner of the Ligonier Bowling Alley. She enjoys bowling as well as playing in a tournament. Some of her favorite hobbies are reading and traveling, especially visiting her children and grandchildren. Her favorite food is anything Italian, and she loves to make sauce from scratch. Her pet peeve is getting people to “Tell me the way it is!”. That’s all she wants. Esther Berkey - Staff Member Esther has been working at the Bethlen Home as Food Service Manager for the last six years. She was born and raised in Ligonier on a farm. Her mother still maintains the farm and cares for fifty cows, geese, cats, etc. She currently is working with a broken arm. and is always finding a way to keep busy. She is a widow and has six children and two grandsons. She, herself, has a farm which she also maintains, and has two sons living at home. She enjoys having a fruit and vegetable garden. She enjoys canning, making jams, loves to cook, and she has no special dislikes. (Trust us, she’s a great cook! We always look forward to her fruitcake around the holidays!) When asked what her worst pet peeve was, her response was to learn to accept things and understand peoples’ actions and why they do things. Says she’s a very content person and has learned to live her life one day at a time. Dorothy Türkei - Resident Dorothy recently came to live at Bethlen Home from Florida. She is a native Pennsylvanian from Churchill. PA. Dorothy comes from a three generation family working in the coal industries. She has one son and three grandchildren of whom she is very proud. While her husband was living, they did extensive traveling across the United States. Some of Dorothy's favorite hobbies are playing bridge, knitting and traveling. She loves fancy desserts and enjoys making them as well - says she’s strictly a meat and potatoes girl. Her worst pet peeve is trying new things such as foods. Jfeart to Jbart “Heartfelt Thanks” to the Volunteers who do­nated towards my “special" surprise gift on the night of the Volunteer Christmas Party. 1 was very touched and overwhelmed, to say the least.
