You earn his respect; He's example and guide. When the going gets rough, he stands by your side. A father can help you with everyday things. He can teach you to whistle, build rubber tire swings. If you ask his opinion, he'll give you the facts. He can teach you construction with a hammer and tacks. A father knows problems may not be what they seem. He's a very good listener, believes in your dream. He shows little interest in fashion or wealth; Has a good sense of humor (he can laugh at himself). A father is friendship in faded blue jeans. He's a shoulder to cry on, the man with the means. He has faith in tomorrow and strength from above. In words spoken plainly, a father is love! Poem by Alice Leedy Mason FREEDOM Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high; Where knowledge is free; Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls; Where words come out from the depth of truth; Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection; Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of dead habit; Where the mind is led forward by thee into ever-widening thought and action. Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake. Poem by: Rabindranath Tagore O BEAUTIFUL. MY COUNTRY O beautiful, my country! Be thine a noble care, Than all thy wealth of commerce Thy harvest waving fair; Be it thy pride to lift up The manhood of the poor; Be thou to the oppressed Fair Freedom's open door. For thee our fathers suffered. For thee they tiled and prayed; Upon thy holy altar Their willing lives they laid. Thou hast no common birthright; Grand memories on thee shine. The blood of pilgrim nations, Commingled, flows in thine. O beautiful, our country! Round thee in love we draw; Thine is the grace of freedom, The majesty of law. Be righteousness thy scepter, Justice thy diadem; And on thy shining forehead Be peace the crowning gem. By; Frederick L.
