Spring 2011 Student Aid Recipients Andrew Reda — Branch 151 am currently a sophomore at the Beaver campus of Penn State University. For the fall 2011 semester, I will be transferring to the Penn State University Park campus and hope to graduate from there with a degree in History in the spring of 2013 with the ultimate goal of finding a career at a museum, historical site or other governmental position relating to history. I am majoring in history because it is something I am very passionate about. I would love the opportunity to share my passion with others and show them how understanding history is extremely valuable in understanding ourselves and the world around us. This is also why organizations such as the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America are so important in helping to keep a culture’s history and traditions alive so younger generations can better understand themselves culturally and how important their unique heritage really is. I would like to sincerely thank the HR FA for their generous scholarship which will aid me in realizing my goal of finding a career in doing what I love because as it is said, you will never work a day in your life if you do what you love. I would also like to personally thank the Fabris for recommending me for this scholarship. In middle school, 1 also had the privilege of having Joe Fabri as my soccer coach. Looking back on those years, I see how he helped teach me and my teammates to work as hard as possible and appreciate everything we have, whether it be on the soccer field or in life. He would tell us how as a child, he and his friends didn’t even have a soccer ball to play with and had to wrap rags together so they could play, something most people my age couldn’t even imagine. On one occasion, Mr. Fabri even came into my Social Studies class and told his incredible story of living in Europe during his youth. The hardships he, his family, and his friends faced during these times are something I couldn’t believe, but the story showed me how lucky I really am and to appreciate everything I have in life. This scholarship is a perfect example of how fortunate I am, and I am extremely grateful for it. This gift will help me realize my goal in life and hopefully educate and better the lives of others as a result. Again, I would like to thank the HRFA and the Fabris for their kindness and generosity in helping young people like me reach our goals in life. Recommended by Joseph Fabri, Director Douglas J. Gioiello — Branch 227 am currently a junior at Wright State University, which is a four-year accredited university near Dayton, OH. I am majoring in Biological Sciences with a concentration on Pre-Dentistry. My freshman year, I was awarded a scholarship for being the top student in my freshman chemistry course. This went directly towards helping me pay my tuition for my sophomore year. I come from a family of six. I am twenty. I have an 18-year-old brother, a 17-year-old sister, and a 15-year-old sister, and we will all currently be in college by the year 2013.1 have been a member of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America since 2003.My grandparents enrolled me. They have been good friends with Bill and Margie Nicholas for over 45 years and have always respected them. I have helped my grandmother with many volunteer projects for the veterans in Cleveland VA Hospital and others. The cookie project and the shoebox project are examples. Another project was free babysitting while mothers shopped. Setting a good example and always aspiring to do good things in life, especially for others, has been a goal of mine in life, as well as doing as well in college as possible. I have lived with three other friends here at school who see me as a good friend, helper, leader and another brother. Recommended by Mrs. Margaret Nicholas, Branch Manager 30
