Bill Nicholas

Bill Nicholas was honored on January 14,2011, when he was inducted into the LaBrae High School Alumni Hall of Fame for living as an exemplary model for his community and all its citizens.

Bill served on the Board of Directors of the HRFA (2001-2008). He was an educator for 44 years, an athletic coach for 21 years, and served on the battleship USS New Jersey during the Korean War.

In 1990, he was presented with a special Congressional Recognition for his teaching achievement and his contributions along with an American flag flown over our nation’s Capitol. In 1996, he received the “Fraternalist of the Year Award” for his service to help others during the HRFA convention in New Jersey.

Bill has helped his wife, Marge, who is the Branch Manager of Branch 227 in Warren, OH since 1984 for the HRFA. They have helped our veterans at the VA Hospital in Brecksville, OH, the needy families in the Warren area through the Warren Family Mission, and they were instrumental through HRFA to send food, clothes and other items to help the needy families in the Appalachian region.

Január 21-én nagy tömeg gyűlt össze a Kossuth Házban, Anna Porter, magyar származású, kanadai írónő előadásán. A szerző három könyvét mutatta be a közönségnek. Anna Porter a Ghosts of Europe: Journeys Through Central Europe’s Troubled Past and Uncertain Future, a Kasztner’s Train: The True Story of an Unknown Hero of the Holocaust és a Storyteller: A Memoir of Secrets, Magic and Lies című műveiről és a megírásuk történetéről beszélt. Utóbbi a magyarul Fénytörések — Családom történetei és nemtörténetei címmel megjelent kötetét nagyapja, a 19. század végén született Rácz Vili meséi ihlették. Az írónő elbeszéléséből megismerhetjük családja történetét a 2. világháborútól kezdve az 1956-os forradalom eseményein át az új-zélandi önkéntes száműzetésig.

Anna Porter Szigethy Anna néven született Budapesten. 1956- ban kislányként hagyta el Magyarországot. Uj-Zélandon nőtt fel és ott végezte el az egyetemet is. Kanadában telepedett le, ahol irodalmi és könyvkiadói karriert futott be.
