Branch News Spring 2011 Reminder: Plan Ahead Join Hands Day — May 7, 2011 Branch 13, 93 — Passaic, NJ Farsang Garfield-ban 2011. február 12-én Gyermek Farsangot tartottak a Garfieldi Amerikai-Magyar- Polgári Ligában, ahol szép számmal jöttek el a részvevők. Közel 40 gyermek 60 felnőtt érkezett Manhattanból, Long Islandről, Brooklynból és Westchesterből. Ezt a délutánt a 10 ezer lépés magyar könyvesbolt tulajdonosai, Tímea és Mikky Zsédely szervezték, akik szívvel-lélekkel azon dolgoznak, hogy a magyar gyerekek megfelelő tudást kapjanak a magyar irodalomról és kultúráról. így a könyvesbolt egyben kulturális központ is, ahol összejöveteleket szerveznek gyermekek és felnőttek részére. A könyvesbolt 2008. április 4-én nyílt a New Jersey-béli Cliftonban, és 2010 októberében New York városába költözött. Az érdeklődők telefonon (646-484-5525), és az interneten (www.hunbookstore.com illetve www.transartarea.com) is elérhetik, sőt rendelhetnek is az üzletből, ahol a könyveken kívül számtalan magazin, DVD és magyar ajándéktárgy kapható. Ahol tudnak, segítenek és együttműködnek a magyar egyesületekkel. Ajánlom a magyarság szíves figyelmébe a könyvesboltjukat. Tóth Ilona, Branch Manager Advent by Candlelight Branch 35 — Detroit, Ml With a prayerful spirit, we sent out the neatly filled shoeboxes of our Operation Christmas Child Project. Then we had just enough time to take a deep breath and turn our attention to our next event. Our annual Advent by Candlelight Program was just around the corner and the preparation is always elaborate. It takes a lot of time and energy by the members of our Branch, but it is overwhelmingly satisfying to see the success. The fellowship around the festive tables, taking in the inspiring music, and listening to the touching testimonies turned our hearts and minds to the mood of Christmas. While being greatly enriched, we also wanted to make sure that we warm the hearts of others by showing some act of kindness. As I began to organize the event, I also looked around to find a worthy cause to support. When I contacted First Step, a shelter and support service, they gladly accepted our pledge. The members of our Branch and the guests at our event were happy to bring a wide variety of items to fill their wish list in order to help families and individuals in crisis situations. The success of the evening was measured by not only how wonderfully we were ministered to but also by the fact that we were able to share the love of Christmas through our gifts and thus to touch the lives of others. It was a very satisfying feeling. As we look forward to working together in the spirit of fraternalism, may all of our members enjoy a healthy and successful year. 22
