Fall 2010 Hungary Mailing List Success Story Part II n the previous issue of the Testvériség, I wrote about the success of locating the first cousin of a member of my St. Michael’s Parish. His name is Monsignor István Kocsis from Slovakia. Mary Ann Wagerik is the name of my Parishioner. A few days ago, I received a telephone call from Father Joseph Vámos from Crown Point, Indiana. He is a member of the HRFA and upon reading my article in the Fraternity, he immediately recognized the Monsignor’s name. Father Vámos visited with Monsignor Kocsis in July, had lunch with him, took pictures and said he looks great. Joseph and Marika Kovács of Crown Point Point, Indiana, long-time and very dedicated hard-working members of the HRFA, are good friends of Father Vámos. He is a member of their Branch. Very recently, I received an email from Jim Lakatos, who originally saw my posting on the Hungary Mailing List and in turn contacted Arpad Barillo in New Jersey who in turn contacted me. All of us agree that it is a true success story that made my Parishioner Mary Ann Wagerik very happy. Heavy rains and storms caused serious damage and thousands of residents fled their homes to displacement centers. The Hungarian Red Cross appealed to donors to assist the flood victims and HRFA promptly responded. The Federation donated more than $1000 to the Hungarian Red Cross to help the flood victims. I personally witnessed the destruction of the flooded roads, tracks and sidewalks in downtown Budapest when I was there in June. Walkways to the boats and ticket offices were completely submerged. I urge fellow Hungarians to support this worthwhile cause as people are still trying to return to their lives before the storm and recover or replace their homes, belongings, possessions and employments. If any HRFA members would like to donate to the Hungarian Red Cross, please visit their website: www.voroskereszt.hu. Leslie Megyeri, HRFA President 26
