Fall 2010 Branch 151 — Beaver Falls, PA Hungarian Day at Kennywood Park Sponsored by the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America, the Hungarian Ethnic Group of Western PA and the McKeesport Hungarian Social Club, August 4, 2010 The Hungarian kitchen opened at noon and the delicious menu consisted of stuffed cabbage, noodles, potato dumplings with butter bread crumbs, cucumber salad, filled crepes, assorted pastries, and kolbász with sauerkraut sandwiches. All who ate enjoyed the delicious menu. Rose Gerzse- nyi had a wonderful display table of Hungarian artifact, costumes and videos of Hungary. The program started at 7:00 p.m. with a welcome from Ken Gerzsenyi who is Rose’s son. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and the National Anthem was sung by the assembly with Alice McLeod at the piano. The Hungarian National Anthem was led by Rev. Dr. Gabor Neitch. Mr. Bill Kortz, State Representative, 38th District, spoke encouraging to our ethnic group to continue to maintain their culture and to be proud of our heritage. Rev. Dr. Joseph Posta of Duquesne Hungarian Reformed Church gave the prayer in the evening. The Hungarian speaker for the evening was Joseph Fabri, Director of the HRFA, Washington, DC. Joe complimented Rose Gerzsenyi for her dedication to maintaining the Hungarian Day annually. Joe extended our warmest greetings on behalf of the HRFA and the Bethlen Home. Hungarians should be proud they have existed over too years. They should visit Bethlen Home, Ligionier Gardens and the cottages to see what beautiful areas they are. Mr. Steve Vance played the violin of beautiful melodies, particularly the Csardas. A few got up to dance to the beautiful sounds, which made for a lovely evening. Our English speaker was the Rev. Albert Kovács, formerly of the Hungarian Reformed Church, Woodbridge, New Jersey. Rev. Kovács spoke about the Hungarian situation in Romaina. The Romanian government makes it quite difficult for the Hungarians in that region by forbidding them to speak their language. The following Hungarian Clubs were recognized: Ellwood City: Bill Hrabosky, President (Left to right) Julie, Jessalyn, Rachel, Alexa DeSantes, Renee Maldonato, Jeffrey DeSantes (back), Aexandra Maldonato, Joseph Fabri, Director, couple interested in FIRFA products and Peggy Fabri, Fraternal Coordinator McKeesport Hungarian Social Club: Mikki Szabó Pittsburgh Hungarian Club: Arpad Domos Zelienople Beneficial Club: Bob Hoffman Rose Gerzsenyi We then honored past Miss Magyars and crowned the new Miss Magyar of the Tri-State Area. We had closing prayers with Rev. Dr. Posta and sang “God Bless America” with the assembly which ended the program for 2010. Margaret Fabri, Branch Manager Pennsylvania Fraternal Societies Met with State Representatives April 27, 2010, Harrisburg, PA Pennsylvania Fraternal Societies meet with State Representatives annually in the State Capitol. 2010 was the most successful meeting because almost too State Representatives attended the Lt. Governor’s luncheon meeting. Fraternal representatives had a chance to lobby with local representatives on behalf of Fraternal Societies to retain their tax exemption. The State Representatives assured us that they would fight for the Fraternal Societies’ interest. We recommend that all Fraternal Society members make contact with their State Representatives and attend local town meetings. We need to know personally our local State and National Representatives so that our impact will be felt in political circles.
