Fraternity I Testvériség Branch 176 — Gary, IN Picnics Throughout the Summer Branch 176, along with other Branches from Northwest Indiana, worked together on the annual HRFA Picnics this summer. The picnic season officially kicked-off on June 27th. This successful event was hosted by the Hungarian American Citizens’ Club. Everyone was truly in the spirit to start the summer. The big picnic of the year was our own Kossuth Club of HRFA event on July 11th. This year marked the first since the passing of our friend and HRFA secretary, Steve Mischak. His cheerful presence and contribution as picnic "greeter" at the cashbox was missed. Director András Demeter picked up the cashbox duties for this year's event. Steve (Jr) & Becky Mischak and Tom Mischak helped tend the bar with Charlie Szo and László Hunyady. Marika Kovács made the pork stew and all the beiglis. Many of our ladies volunteered, prepared and donated an assortment of delicious baked goods and traditional pastries. Joe Kovács, Fr. Skerl and their team of "sausage makers" also made the nokedli for the event. The stuffed cabbage also had the usual great crew as last year. It was very delicious. The raffle was run by Kati Mischak and enthusiastically assisted by all of the wonderful children. This was the first year that we made a creative change in making langos. Fr. Skerl suggested "automating the process" and helped create the best machine-kneaded langos! We are very thankful that many more of our younger members with their families and friends were in attendance this year. We wish to thank all of our members who helped make the event successful. Everyone truly enjoyed the fellowship, great Hungarian food and pastries and good Hungarian music that was provided by George Cservenak, Cultural Secretary of our Kossuth Club. The season closed with the Holy Trinity Hungarian Church’s Annual Picnic on the 31st of July. Special thanks to Marika Koromi for the pork stew and our sausage making team again for the nokedli. Everyone pitched in to support our wonderful church.
