Fraternity I Testvériség Branch News Branch 35 — Detroit, Ml We Met with Old Friends and Made New Ones Rev, Varga, Michael and Julia Swales, Rev. and Mrs, Bertalan, Katalin Varga The good people of Toledo, OH organized the “Annual Birmingham Festival” when the temperature was ninety degrees, not to mention the humidity. The food was also hot from the Hungarian paprika, and the programs were exciting as they were given by the various groups. We who were representing the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America had a good time. Many visitors, driven by mere curiosity or by genuine interest, stopped at the HRFAtent. During the day, most of the visits began with the usual small talk and questions. Many times those questions led to meaningful conversations, revealing the entire history of our families and to a wholehearted testimony to the fraternal values we all hold dear. One of the visitors shared with us how her grandparents became policy holders and they bought life insurance for their children and grandchildren as well, so the legacy continues. The center of the discussion was the rich history of HRFA as we recalled that many beautiful Hungarian Reformed Churches were built with financial assistance from the organization. This dedicated effort made it possible for those who newly came to this country to establish a new life for their families. I believe this is what we have to hear — the enthusiastic stories of parents and grandparents. But I strongly believe that our own generation must show dedication so when our children and grandchildren grow up, they will also be able to share such lively and fresh memories. When our grandparents or parents bought policies, they had a vision for us. This vision needs to find its fulfillment in our lives.
