Aquatic Gardens (2007), a panel discussion about 1956 in Hungary at the John Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, delivering 32 boxes for Operation Christmas Child, and the traditional HRFA Christmas party. Branch 302 reported participation in the following major project for the year of2006: Clothes for Appalachia and Op­eration Christmas Child. The 6 boxes of clothing and house linen items were donated by the Wyttenbach and Dózsa families. Also, these families packed 22 boxes for the disadvantaged children for Christmas and spent over $300for this “Shoe Box ” project. Our thanks goes out to them for their participation and to Branch Manager Jerry Wyttenbach for reporting them to us. 9 I called a Veteran's hospital to ask whom to turn to for permission to come for the holidays and bring some cheer to the ladies and gentlemen who served in Iraq and are recovering at the facility. I was directed to speak to the Directors Office of Personal Affairs. I became very excited to know that I could thank these people who gave life and limb to protect us. How could I give them some rays of happiness and possibly help speed their recovery? So I called the VA Hospital and spoke with a patient advocate. I gave her my name and number and said I would like to set the day for either 12/22 or 12/23, but I will wait for a call back. I called Tuesday and spoke with Personal Affairs who switched me to Volunteer Services. I was told that the PolyTrama facility is looking for a New Years party. The psycho-social committee meets Tuesdays and could we come prior to New Year instead. She added they only have 5 people who are recovering from Iraq and could we in­clude others. I said I didn't have a problem with it. So now we need the funds. Jules Balogh, our HRFA Presi­dent, sent funding so we could make the party a success. I bought the biggest pinata I could find and several pounds of delicious candy to fill it. I drove to Tampa alone be­cause my four volunteers couldn’t make it. That turned out just well since the pinata filled up the back seat. I brought along pizza, garlic bread, cheesy bread chicken strips, hot wings and cinnamon rolls. A friend of mine, Dawn Dill is the owner of a pharmaceutical rep. staffing company. Her agency paid for 12 two-liter bottles of soda. I was in awe. There was a young man about 27 years old who had served four years in the Marines. He finished his stint but Party at the Veteran’s Hospital in Sarasota, Florida.
