Reverend Imre Bertalan, Executive Director of Bethlen Home in Ligonier, PA gave the invocation. Pledge of Allegiance and the star spangled banner with the presentation of the fags was sung by the assembly. Tina Yakich, director of the Hungarian Ethnic Dance Group of Western PA gave a brief history of the Hungarian Flag. Marc Gergely, State Representative 35th Legislative District of PA gave the English address. Joseph Fabri Director of HRFA recited the poem: “Nemzeti Dal”. Noemi Borsay also recited a poem, thus representing the youth’s involvement in the program Eva Macs Gave the Hungarian address. The benediction was given by Rev. Dr. Daniel Borsay of the Free Hungarian Reformed Church of McKeesport. Rose always puts together a memorable program that is both educational and informative. Thanks to all who worked hard for the success of it. Hungarian Day at Kennywood Even though the temperature was approaching 100 degrees, the 80th Anniversary of Magyar Nap was held August 2 at the Kennywood Theme Park in West Mifflin, PA. It was sponsored by the Hungarian Ethnic Group of Western Pennsylvania, The McKeesport Hungarian Social Club and the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America. Chairman Rose Gerzsenyi was honored with flowers and gifts on her 80th birthday this day. Rose Gerzsenyi The Rev. Daniel Borsay, minister of the Free Hungarian Reformed Church of McKeesport delivered the invocation. Musician Mrs. Alice McLeod accompanied the crowd in the singing of the magyar Himnusz, Jó estét kívánok and the American National Anthem. Christina Yakich of the Hungarian Ethnic Group of Western Pennsylvania directed the performer Jóska Kaschak Troutman in a performance. One of the featured speakers was HRFA Board of Directors’ Joe Fabri, who spoke of the 50th Anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution. Joe thanked the Americans who helped the refugees in ’56, and spoke of his experience in coming to the United States. The audience was enthusiastic with his thanks and praise. HRFA group photo HRFA’s President Mr. Jules Gyula Balogh spoke of the HRFA becoming a global presence since the Hungarian summer intern, Adam Szijarto from Switzerland was on the Home Office’s staff. HRFA’s CFO Mr. Les Megyeri spoke in Hungarian and recited his “Ode to a Hungarian Freedom Fighter” which will be published in anthology of ’56 remembrances this October, and will be read in Budapest, Hungary at the Commemorative Celebration on October 22, 2006.
