STUDENT AID RECIPIENTS The Student Aid Fund of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America is accepting donations. Since we are a tax-exempt fraternal organization, the amount of your contribution is deductible from your personal income taxes. Your generous donation allows many young members of the HRFA tojjartake in the wonderful ogjjortunities higher education has to offer. As one of its many fraternal benefits, the HRFA offers a one-time financial assistance of $600 to our young members who are pursuing a college education. It is intended that this scholarship be applied towards the cost of tuition, fees, books, or room and board. All students who fulfill the following requirements may apply: • Must be a member of the HRFA for at least five years immediately preceding the date of application for the scholarship. He or she must be a member in good standing, i.e., applicant’s policy is not lapsed or matured. Policy must be whole life. • Should be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate day student in an accredited four-year college or university. The scholarship is not available to first- year college students. It is only granted to those who are in their 2nd, 3rd or 4th years and have earned good grades for the courses completed. The applicant should contact his or her Branch Manager or the Home Office to receive an application form. Once this form is completed, the applicant should send it to the Branch Manager or the Home Office together with a transcript. The Home Office will review and process the application. When approved, a check will be sent to the applicant. Angela Beaver, member of Branch 300: I would like to thank HRFA for the support it offers to young members who are in pursuit of a college education. Accordingly, I would like to also thank Teri Pflum for recommending me for this scholarship program. My home is in Walkersville, MD. I played several varsity sports for my High School including: lacrosse, swimming, track and field, and most importantly, soccer. I received honorable mention all-area in both track and field and soccer. A few hobbies which I have enjoyed are creative writing, collecting sea shells, and collecting butterflies. I also volunteered in the Appalachia Service Project for four consecutive years, which was sponsored through my church. For one week during each summer, my church helped repair homes of both individuals and families who were economically impoverished living within the Appalachian Mountain region. I am currently a junior at Salisbury University in pursuit of an undergraduate degree in English as a Second Language Education and Spanish. My school has recently added the ESL education degree, as the need for teachers who can work with students whose native language is not English has become in demand. I am a member of Kappa Delta Phi, the education honor society. We have helped organize many after school events which help support childrens’ reading skills. For instance, one program we have initiated is a Sunday reading program with grade school students at the local library. Being a member of this honor society is important to me because I am given the opportunity to work with children and leam more about their needs. At the university I am also a member of the Outdoors Club. We organize several adventure trips but also partake in community service projects such as river clean ups. I feel that it is important we take care of our environment, and develop awareness for what is best for it. I also believe it is important to exercise and keep fit by engaging in activities that you enjoy. Thank you again for your support. (Angela was recommended by former Branch Manager Teri Pflum) Timothy Blandford, member of Branch 197: My name is Tim Blandford. I am 1 9 years old, 20 in May. In my spare time I like listening to music, running, playing video games, and going into Pittsburgh. I am currently attending Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). I am finishing up my sophomore year. At IUP I am studying computer science but I’m changing my major in the next fall semester to either criminology or communications media.
