Page 10 Fraternity- Testvériség democracy to take root and flourish. At the end humanism was defeated, but not killed; she remained in the hearts of the ones who stayed and the ones who scattered throughout the globe to keep them connected with the invisible thread of belonging and responsibility. Young fighters - now a bit grayer - have a great responsibility to tell the story, to make subsequent generations aware of the sacrifices that were made and the reasons they were needed. Young thinkers - battling issues of today’s complicated world - have an even greater responsibility to search for the truth, to learn from the consequences and devise a social system void of the crippling burden of past inhumane ideologies. Just like back on the streets of Budapest forty nine years ago, there are still young fighters armed with knowledge, curiosity and space-age technology of communication and they want to know more, they care, they also feel responsible for the future. What this generation of thinkers and doers need is honest answers, not slogans, cooperation and acceptance so they also get a chance to channel their energy for the common good of our nation. There is a way to keep 1956’s heroic revolution alive and young, but in order to never let her show her age, we -Hungarians around the world- must help and energize each other with constant vigilance against dogmas that are antidemocratic and inhumane. It can and must be done if our little and peculiar country wants to stay on the map for at least another millennium.
