Page 24 Fraternity- Testvériség Bachelor’s Degree at Merrimack College in North Andover, Massachusetts. 1 am a Vice President of my class and also a member of the Varsity Lacrosse team. This year, I will also be on the Dodge Ball team for exercise and fun. 1 work part-time at the concession stand on campus and also work in the summer with my dad in his carpet business to save money to help with my college expenses. Paying for college is very expensive, and my parents help all they can, but being able to receive a scholarship is a great help. My whole life I have been involved in playing sports (basketball, baseball, soccer and lacrosse) and music. I started playing the piano and viola in elementary school. Then in junior high, I continued with piano, viola and started the trumpet and was in the orchestra, jazz band and concert band. In high school, I was in marching band, jazz band, and wind ensemble, and was very proud to make the Connecticut Allstate Band my senior year. Playing two sports a year, being co-captain of the basketball team and being in marching band in high school was a very aggressive schedule, with practices and traveling to games during the week and competitions each weekend in the fall for marching band. 1 had no spare time at all. I was also honored by News 12 Connecticut for Scholar Athlete Award for achievement in scholarship, athletics, leadership, and school service in the spring of my senior year. Thank you for considering me for this scholarship” (Justin was recommended by Branch 52 Manager, Suzanne Virgulák) Krisztina Varga, Branch 182: “1 am a twenty- three- year old sociology student at Cal State Fullerton. I was twenty years old when I decided to major in sociology. I think helping people is vital for a human being. A sociology degree will take me to heights in this world that will make me a better person and that will also enrich many other lives. I hope to work at a nonprofit organization that helps those in need. My life has been blessed with a great family, friends and a great education. I am a hard- working person with extreme passion for the world and other people. In the summer of 2001, I volunteered my time at Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times. I was an arts and crafts counselor for kids suffering from cancer. It was a great experience. I loved working with the children, and I learned a tremendous amount from them. I learned that these children can suffer so much pain at a young age and still be such an inspiration to so many people. I am involved with activities in the sociology department at Cal State Fullerton, and soon I will be undergoing an internship to help me experience my field of study. My education has taken me to places that many people dream of. I have learned about the ups and downs of society, and I plan on using my knowledge to help people who are not as fortunate as I am.” (Krisztina was recommended by Branch 182 Manager, Sara Nagy) Lane C. Toth, member of Branch 134: “First and foremost, I would like to thank the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America for this gift. 1 would also like to say thanks to Mrs. Olga Darnay for selecting me as a recipient of this great honor. I was born and raised at West Mifflin where many of my friends and family still reside. I am currently attending the Community College of Allegheny County as a second- year sophomore. As I write this, I have only two more semesters left until I receive my Associate’s degree in Graphic Communication. Then, 1 plan on transferring to the University of Point Park in downtown Pittsburgh to study further in order to receive my Bachelor’s degree. Since the fall of 2003, I have been attending college as a fulltime student. 1 have also been working two part-time jobs which keeps me very busy with work and studies. During the spring semester of 2004, 1 achieved high honors by being placed on the Dean’s List as I achieved a GPA of 3.85. I always set my
