1 Page 18 Fraternity- Testvériség OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD UPDATE By Deneice Oroszvary Welcome New Members Every year there seems to be a great deal of confusion about Operation Christinas Child (OCC). This is a project where shoe boxes are packed with toys and personal items to be shipped to Third World countries. In order for them to arrive in time, the boxes must all be completed and dropped off at a central pick-up point the week BEFORE Thanksgiving. Branch 20 and the HRC of Trenton have found that it is very difficult to get this project organized and completed in time if we begin in September. Here is the outline of our solution to the problem. This year, we sent out 20 boxes, and our goal for next year is 100. Each month will be designated for a certain type of item. January - February March - April May - June - July August - September- October - November December TOYS (no weapons, nothing violent or dangerous) HEAD (combs, brushes, barrettes, pony-tail holders, hair ribbons, baseball caps.) MOUTH MONTH (toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss, chap stick) MONEY (We will have a pancake breakfast- for recipe see page 12; and the Youth Group will make killi to sell. This is early enough that we can do it again in the fall if we don't earn enough on the first try.) SOCKS T-SHIRTS MINI TOTE BAGS (This is another project where we will attempt to get the Youth Group and older Sunday School children involved. We will be sewing the tote bags from fabric that is left after making the saddlebags, a simple project but another chance to give young people learning to sew.) STICKERS SCHOOL SUPPLIES CANDY PICTURES AND NOTES (A nice touch is to include a picture of one of the people working on the boxes with a personal note to the child who will be receiving the box.) WRAP, PACK AND DELIVER the boxes. BASK IN YOUR SUCCESS AND REST UP TO START AGAIN IN JANUARY! We are pleased to welcome Alexa Burke, Andrew Capra, Allison Capra and Evan Burke to the HRFA. They are all the grandchildren of Vincent Vida, President of Branch 1. We wish God’s richest blessings on our new members and the entire Vida family! Suzanne S.
