Page 20 Fraternity- Testvériség recognition for his service during WWII. After the program, we had the opportunity to socialize with the community leaders and the veterans. During our conversation, we were asked about our organization and all were impressed with what the HRFA stands for. After the program, we invited Andrew and Stella to lunch, and we enjoyed fellowship together. The other veteran we met was Frank Bagamery of Beaver, Pennsylvania. Joe and I went to visit him at home because he was not feeling well and unable to attend the Memorial Day service in Beaver Falls. Frank was stationed in China and India during World War II. He served for two years as communicator in the 529th Army Division. Frank is married to Sandra, and they have a daughter, Theresa. We had a wonderful time with Frank and Sandra, and we especially enjoyed listening to Frank’s wartime experiences. Frank’s dad, Andrew Bagamery, was the Branch Manager ofBr. 151 many years ago. The other two veterans in our Branch are Joseph Kati and Louis Popp who will be receiving their certificates from us. We honored those residents who served in the U.S. military, as well as those who served in the Hungarian Armed Forces during World War II in the fight for freedom. We started our Memorial Day service with the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag and the Pledge to the Hungarian Flag. We then sang the American and Hungarian National Anthems, WWII veteran Edward Vargo holding his certificate. Standing in the back are his wife, Betty, and his son, Ronald. followed by several other traditional patriotic songs. Special music was presented by Sarah Keppler. Bishop Alvin Copeland, Sr., a resident at Lorantffy Care presided over the service and presented the certificates of honor with the assistance of Elizabeth Király to 16 men who also reside at Lorantffy Care Center. (See Elizabeth Király honoring Pa§e 12 for the listing of their WWII veteran Stephen names.) Toth The service was closed by singing God Bless America. All who attended were emotionally moved and inspired by the recognition given to our beloved residents who faithfully served their respective countries during World War II. We express special appreciation to the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America for providing the certificates to our veterans, and making this special celebratory service possible. Elizabeth Schmidt, Branch Manager Tel: 330-666-2611 Branch 198 - Ligonier, Pennsylvania Join Hands Day On May 1, adults of the Bethlen Home and members and volunteers of HRFA Branches 6, 198, and 235 joined with young adults from Valley Youth Network in Ligonier to help a group of citizens residing in an apartment complex with indoor and outdoor cleanup work. Together with the youth, we washed windows, doors, porches, planted flowers, and did general yard work. After we finished, the apartment complex definitely looked much nicer and brighter. The seniors were overwhelmed with gratitude. They were especially amazed at how seriously the young people took their work. We then returned to the Bethlen Home to celebrate May 1 with the residents from the Nursing Home, Ligonier Gardens, and from our cottages. The weather was gorgeous so we all enjoyed fellowship and a delicious meal of Hungarian bogrács gulyás. The young adults served lunch to the residents of the Home, and it was very rewarding to see them interact with the residents and the joy on the residents’ faces. Big thanks to all who participated!
