Everyone was invited back to the Church Center for a reception where we honored the living veterans of World War II. There are 24 such veterans at the Church. Only four were able to attend the reception, but they were happily surprised when they each were presented with a Certificate of Appreciation thanking them for their service to our Country. Those present were: William Ellis, Stephen Karmazsin, Steven Katko, and Gabriel Tariska. Certificates were also given to the two local VFW Posts and the Ameri- can Legion Post in Perth Amboy. _ Those who could not attend re-Si Miss Priscilla Hunyady wei- ceived their certificates either dur- coming those in attendance jng church services or by mail. The veterans were most appreciative of the fact that we took the time to remember and honor them. They each briefly reflected on their time in the military emphasizing that in the war they watched out for each other no matter what the circumstances. May God bless all of our veterans! Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Join Hands Day On May 1, we did much work at the Duquesne Hungarian Reformed Church’s cemetery. We cleaned off graves of those who have no family left. Very large overgrown bushes had to be cut down and hauled away. Many huge bags of leaves, twigs galore, trash, etc. were raked up. Headstones were washed off. Our member, Dan Man- della, hauled several loads of dirt in his truck, and filled holes in quite a few places. This will prevent anyone from falling as they walk through the grass. It was an enjoyable morning, and afterward we gathered at the Church’s Fellowship Hall for lunch prepared by our President, Marian Nagy, and Branch Manager, Olga Dar- nay. It was a delight working together—11 adults and three of our youth. Marian Nagy’s three great grandchildren, almost 5-year-old Matthew, 7-year-old Stephen, and 9- year-old Emily, came with their gardening gloves, caps, and tools, and started working as soon as they arrived. Their mother, Erica, said that all weeklong prior to Saturday, they talked about how anxious they were to come help. This year, we decided to wash cars as a fund-raiser for our Branch member, Matt Wallace. Matt is a young man studying to become a pastor or a missionary, and he is in need of financial assistance to complete his studies. Early morning on May 1, a group of members and friends of our Branch headed out to Wendy’s parking lot to start with our assignment. The weather was favorable so we had a nice turnout. We worked in shifts to be able to wash as many cars as possible. Helping Matt is an ongoing project of our Branch. Together with the ladies of our Bible study group, we have committed ourselves to supporting Matt financially. During the carwash many people asked what the money was going to be used for. This gave us the opportunity to speak about Join Hands Day and how this event Washing cars can be a tough chore. Joe was helping Matt Fabri and one of his helpers achieve his goals. In the winter 2003 issue of Fraternity-Testvériség, we wrote how Matt’s life turned around from a drug addict’s to a follower of Christ. After a hard day’s work, we convened at Wendy’s to enjoy fellowship. Cranberry Township der the leadership of Branch members Jeff and Julie De- Santes, our Join Hands Day project took place on May 15.
