Page 3 Fraternity- Testvériség President’s Corner: The 37th Quadrennial Convention of the HRFA On behalf of the Executive Committee, the Board of Directors and the Home Office employees, we extend a warm greeting to our members and to the greater family of the Hungarian Reformed Federation. These are very precious times. Only a few weeks separate us from our 37th Quadrennial Convention, and all of us are anxious not only to see one another after four years since our last Convention, but also to give our best in wisdom and service to the organization we cherish. We look forward to a time to spend together, the leadership of the organization and our delegates, to give an accounting of the past years, and to unitedly charter a new course for the future. In this issue are the names and pictures of the constituent members of the Convention. Rev. Nt. M. Török István, Elnök Report of the Secretary-Treasurer: The HRFA, like all insurance companies, is regulated by each state where we sell insurance. Since we are located in the District of Columbia, its Insurance Commissioner is our Regulatory Supervisor. In addition, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners proposes laws and regulations which are enacted by the various states. The insurance laws first require that the HRFA has adequate reserves set aside so that the policyholders or their beneficiaries get paid as promised. These reserves are dollars that cannot be used for other purposes. Secondly, the money in the reserves must be invested in bonds and to a limited amount in stocks that are of high quality. Therefore, our investment policy is very conservative. HRFA must file quarterly and annual statements with the various states disclosing our assets, liabilities, summary of operations and cash flow. Detailed schedules support these statements. Thus, our annual reports are about one hundred pages long containing a detailed accounting of what we do. In addition, the HRFA is audited every year by an independent accounting firm. The accounting firm examines our books and compares them with our annual statement tiled with the states. If there are any differences, we have to explain them. Eventually, the accounting firm’s audit report is mailed to the DC Insurance Commissioner. HRFA’s audit was completed on May 24, 2004, and this report stated that our financial statements present fairly the financial position of the HRFA as of December 31, 2003 and 2002. Moreover, HRFA is audited every three years by the DC Insurance Commissioner. In sum, this audit reviews the preceding three audits of the independent public accountant. HRFA is undergoing such an audit this year. Without the dedicated work of Silvia Fedor, Erika Mason, and Elizabeth Pota, it would be impossible to prepare the numerous statements, fill out the required questionnaires and satisfy all the reporting and auditing requirements. Therefore, 1 want to thank them for their hard work and dedicated service to the HRFA. Leslie L. Megyeri, Secretary- Treasurer
