The beautiful and spacious facility of the Basilian Fathers of Matawan, New Jersey, served as the site for the annual event. Weather has always proved to be a major consideration in carrying out our plans, and this year proved to be no different. Our area was deluged with rain for two weeks prior to the scheduled date with no clear weather forecasted. For only the second time, the Committee made a decision to hold the function indoors in the spacious air-conditioned auditorium. Only the bogrács gulyás, hot dogs, and hamburgers were prepared outdoors under a canvas canopy. Although it never did rain, the air-conditioned auditorium proved a welcome relief from the oppressive heat and humidity for our patrons, the “Our Gang” musical trio, and the bedecked Csürdöngölő Dance Group. Palacsinta and lecsó complemented the traditional fare of bogrács gulyás, pecsenye, hot dogs, hamburgers, com on the cob, watermelon, draft beer, and desserts. The “Our Gang” Trio provided their usual entertaining mode of Hungarian renditions. The Csürdöngölő Dance Group so captivated the audience with their exuberant performance that they were beseeched to render an encore. They did so by prevailing upon members of the audience to join them on the dance floor. In a matter of moments, the dance floor was a picture of foot stomping and twirling dancers. It was obvious that all were having a good time. The day’s activities ended with Chairman Michael Pauli, Jr., asking everyone to rise and sing “God Bless America” honoring our fallen men and women and those still overseas helping to preserve our way of life. Yet another MariaPocs Fraternal Day has been recorded in the Annals of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America.
