Page 18 TESTVÉRISÉG concert band, jazz band, marching band, and a saxophone quartet. With this quartet we received two superior ratings in Districts and an excellent rating at States. I also excelled in theater, having the lead roles in the plays “To Kill a Mockingbird” and” Small Actors,” and minor roles in other plays. I also write poetry which has been published in three books and for which I received the Editor’s Choice Award from the International Library of Poetry. I enjoy playing lacrosse, tennis, and skiing. On Washington Campus, I have been involved in a variety of activities including being a Hall Monitor for my dormitory and serving on the Congress of the South 40 Committee, as well as being a member of America’s foremost business fraternity, Delta Sigma Pi. I plan to enhance my education by taking on an internship in Germany. After college, I would like to get my Master’s Degree in business. Thank you for granting me the scholarship.” (Erika was recommended for the scholarship by Branch Manager István Szmetena.) Mandy Tyler, member of Branch 31: “I am attending Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. The change and challenges of college can always be a rather intimidating adventure, so I was both pleased and proud to have been named to the Dean’s List in each of my previous semesters and currently maintain a 3.7 GPA. Due to several medical challenges in our family while I was very young, I have wanted to be a nurse for as long as I can remember and I am surprised at the degree of personal satisfaction I already feel as I finally begin my training toward my life-long goal. I find a great deal of satisfaction in helping people through their medical crises, just as my family received help when we were in similar circumstances. Because nursing is my career choice, my longterm goal is to complete my master’s in nursing and becoming a Nurse Practitioner after graduating from Xavier University. Besides enjoying the physical recreation of swimming, running, and bicycling, music has also been an extremely important outlet for me throughout life. At age 8, I began studying the piano and expanded my musical interests to include clarinet, bass clarinet, contra clarinet, mellophone, and French horn during high school, ultimately becoming a squad leader and secretary for my high school band. I also worked as a cashier at our local IGA to earn money for college while volunteering at our local hospital one night a week during my junior and senior years of high school. This taught me not only the importance of planning ahead and budgeting my time, but more importantly provided the personal satisfaction of giving back to the community in ways that I hoped could make a difference. I have continued those efforts since attending Xavier University. During my freshman year, I became active in Muskies Own Recruitment Effort (M.O.R.E.), a club focusing on teaching prospectcive students about the Xavier community. I have expanded my volunteerism by joining Xavier’s Student Alumni Association. I would like to thank Mrs. Emma Aros and the HRFA for helping me achieve my goals and my dreams.” Youth Achievements The Rev.
