Page 6 TESTVÉRISÉG Memory Walk‘99 On October 16,1999, the Bethlen Home participated in the Laurel Highlands Chapter Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk ‘99, at Twin Lakes, located in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. The objective of this walk is to bring awareness to the Alzheimer’s disease process while raising money. The funds raised are used for research and to assist those persons currently suffering from this crippling disease. The Bethlen Home through the direction of Pat Armel, Social Service Director, organized 5 teams that were responsible for soliciting funds from the employees and the community. On October 16th, the volunteer staff walkers and 5 residents from the Home boarded the van and headed for Twin Lakes. The morning was crisp with brilliant sunshine and the lake reflection of the fall foliage created a picturesque view. The walk itself was approximately 1 mile long. Many of our walkers took several laps around the lake. The residents participating in the walk were Olga Szabó, Rita Forsman, Verna Fry, Anna Harding and Betty Queer. Once the walk was completed, the staff and residents enjoyed a lunch and welcomed socialization. The Home is pleased to announce that we took first place raising $2,510. In doing so, the Home retains the right to house the winners’ cup for 1 year. The cup is then given to next year’s winner. The facility is eagerly waiting to defend its title. All the staff and residents involved with this great cause enjoyed the day immensely. A very special appreciation is extended to the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America for their matching fund of $500. The Bethlen Home also contributed $250. The Home genuinely thanks those staff and residents who gave of their time and money for the benefit of others.
