Paul Kovács retired as administrator of the Bethlen Home. As he and his wife bid farewell to their many friends, the Bethlen Home community “thanks God for their dedication to the residents of the Bethlen Home, and we ask that God bless them in their years of retirement to come. ” Michael E. Walker began his work as the new administrator at the Bethlen Home on September 1, 1999. Mr. Walker comes to Ligonier after serving as administrator with Beverly Healthcare, located in Gettysburg. He was employed with Beverly Enterprises for seven years, holding the positions of social services director, assistant administrator and administrator. Mr. Walker’s appointment to the Bethlen Home marks a return to the area; he and his family are natives of Somerset County. He is married to the former Barbara Jean Zellem, and they have two sons, Wade and Nash. Mr. Walker says it is his desire to contribute to the Home’s fundamental success of its mission, maintaining the Hungarian heritage of the Home and quality resident care services. Michael E. Walker, left, is the new administrator at the Bethlen Home and the Rev. Imre A. Bertalan has been elected executive director. On September 8, 1999, the Rev. Imre A. Bertalan was elected the new executive director of the Bethlen Home complex. Currently pastor of Calvin United Church of Christ in Toledo, Ohio, Rev. Bertalan has been a Hungarian Reformed pastor for more than 20 years. During the last three years, he has chaired the Strategic Planning Committee of the Bethlen Home. He will assume full-time responsibilities at the Home early in the next year. Excitement continues to mount among the Bethlen Home’s residents, staff and supporters, as planning continues for a new nursing care facility to be built in the near future. The new administrators state that the Bethlen Home will continue to provide an excellent retirement and health care setting well into the future. Residents of Ligonier and the surrounding area are welcome to visit the Bethlen Home at any time. New Bethlen Home Building on Schedule Plans for construction of the new Bethlen Home continue to move ahead on schedule. Under the auspices of the Bethlen Home Board of Directors and the Strategic Planning Committee, meetings are being held to finalize the schematic design of the new building. Every bit of space that will make up the new structure is being analyzed for its use and efficiency. Every effort is being made to assure excellent care of our residents and good working conditions for our staff. We look forward to groundbreaking ceremonies one year from now. The new Bethlen Home’s character will reflect our love of God and our compassion for God’s children. The Home’s design will also reflect the Hungarian heritage, for which we are grateful, and the strong Reformed Christian faith by which we live. Any questions or suggestions concerning the design of the new Bethlen Home can be shared with the Department Heads at the Bethlen Home, the new administrator, Mr. Michael Walker, (724-238-6711) or with Rev.
