Page 16 TESTVÉRISÉG STUDENT AID As one of its many fraternal benefits, the HRFA offers a one-time financial assistance of $500 to our young members who are in pursuit of a college education. It is intended that this scholarship be applied towards the cost of tuition, fees, books, or room and board. All students who fulfill the following requirements may apply: 1. Must have been a member of the Federation for at least five years immediately preceding date of application for scholarship. He or she must be a member of good standing, i.e., applicant’s policy reflects no arrears in dues, and policy is not lapsed, matured or surrendered. 2. Should be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate day student in an accredited four-year college or university. The scholarship is not available to firstyear college students. It is only granted to those who are in their 2nd, 3rd or 4th year and have earned good grades for the courses completed. 3. The applicant must contact his or her branch manager or the Home Office to receive an application form. Once the student completes the form, he or she should send it to the branch manager or the Home Office together with a grade report. The Home Office will review, approve and process the application and send the check to the applicant. We thank our Branch Managers for recommending these many fine young people for the Student Aid & Loan Fund of the HRFA, and for making them aware of this important benefit of our fraternal society. Joyce A. Peterson-Baxley, Member, Branch 245: “I have been a member of Branch 245 for 29 years. In 1983, I participated in the Miss Magyar pageant held at the White Oak Athletic Association. After graduating from Elizabeth Forward High School in 1986, I attended the ICM School of Business. I received an Associates Degree in Secretary Sciences, specializing in the medical field. After having worked for many years in the medical field, I am now enrolled at Point Park College in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, working toward a Bachelors of Science Degree in Business. I would then like to extend my schooling for one year and receive a Masters Degree in Business. With my degrees and my eleven years of medical secretarial experience, I would like to find a management position in a hospital or in an insurance company. In 1995, my husband and I went to St. Petersburg, Russia, where we adopted our three-month-old son Nikoli. My three-year-old Nikoli and I enjoy bike riding, swimming and roller blading.” Jennifer Kokoth, Member, Branch 52: “The activities that I have participated in and the honors that I have received have been a result of a strong foundation in my family and my church. My family and I joined the Hungarian Reformed Church of South Norwalk in 1991, after many years of “commuting” to services at the Hungarian Reformed Church on East 82nd Street in Manhattan, where my father has been baptized and confirmed, my parents were married, and both my sister and I baptized. Upon joining the church in South Norwalk, I immediately became actively involved in the Youth Fellowship and the Sunday School. I was a camper at the Youth Conference of the Calvin Synod and the Hungarian Reformed Church in America from 1992 to 1997, but had to give up the opportunity to attend in 1998, due to a new job. I graduated from New Canaan High School in June of 1997, in the top 30 percent of my class. I began attending Regis College, and all-women’s college, located 14 miles outside of Boston, in Weston, Massachusetts, in the fall of 1997. I am currently in the middle of my sophomore year at Regis, where I have been recognized as a Presidential Scholar since the beginning of my freshman year. I was named to the Dean’s List both semesters of my freshman year. I am currently enrolled in the Education Program at Regis, studying for my certification in Elementary Education, along with a major in History. I plan to complete my undergraduate studies at Regis in the spring of 2001 and continue my education to receive my Master’s degree in either Special Education or Elementary Education. Joyce A.
