FRATERNITY Page 17 My activities at Regis include Campus Ministry and the Presidential Scholars Organization. This summer I was chosen member of the first Board of Programmers at Regis. This organization was established to promote social events both on the Regis campus and in the Boston area. The Board has been given the responsibility of seeing acts and negotiating contracts with nationally known comedians, musicians and speakers. I would like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Virgulák for recommending me for this scholarship and for their continuing interest and support in my educational ventures. ” Michael Lindinger, Member, Branch 176: “Since I have gone to college, I have found that time is a premium. Therefore, whatever the atmosphere, I pride myself on keeping myself busy and productive. I am involved in a host of activities in my church and my school. In my church, I have been a Confirmation sponsor as well as helping out by working at various booths when my church fair comes around every year. Also, I have lent a hand in the running of our annual church bazaar. In my community, I try to be a positive role model to the younger children in the local school system. I accomplish this by visiting some of my former teachers and talking with their students about the various aspects of college, and in some respects, high school. Each spring, I come back to my high school and volunteer my time to coach the pole-vaulters for the high school’s track and field team. This is another chance I get to keep in touch with some of the younger kids and help them in any way possible. At Purdue University, I am involved in numerous clubs and organizations on campus, some of which are directly tied to my major. One of these organizations is the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. This club is consistently recognized nationally as one of the organization’s top branches. Another organization that I am affiliated with is the Interfraternity Council (IFC). One of my biggest accomplishments since coming to college came through this organization. I was able to bring in a speaker from the Franklin Covey Leadership Center to speak on the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. However, not all of these organizations and activities bring me as much satisfaction as my major of mechanical engineering does. Mechanical Engineering is recognized as one of the top disciplines out of all the outstanding majors there is to choose from among the engineering curricula. It is very time consuming, but at the same time very worthwhile, and it has enabled me to greatly improve my analytical ability. I enjoy my major a great deal, because I feel it will prepare me tremendously for my long term goal—going to law school and eventually securing a job in the field of patent and trademark law. Aspects of the law have always fascinated me, and I look forward to having a successful career in that profession. As a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, I enjoy the camaraderie between all the members. There is nothing better than coming home from a long day on campus, gathering some friends together, and just sitting and talking about how our days went by. I relish playing football, track and field, basketball, and swimming. Staying competitive in athletics is always one of my primary interests.” (Michael was recommended for the Student Aid Grant by Branch Manager Kati Mischak.) Ilona Horzsa, Member, Branch 62: “I am a member of the Holy Trinity Church as is my whole family. I have always attended the meetings of Branch 62 as well as the Kossuth Club’s. I help at the Kossuth Club picnics and other fraternal activities. I am raising my son who has been diagnosed with leukemia a few months ago. This was the motivating force for going back to college. (Ilona is enrolled at Ivy Tech State College in Gary, Indiana, majoring in phlebotomy.) I thank you very much for your help. It meant a lot to me and I will always be grateful.” (Ilona was recommended for the Student Aid Grant by Branch Anne Elizabeth Markus, Member, Branch 3: “I am looking forward to beginning my sophomore year at Rhodes College, a small liberal arts college located in Memphis, Tennessee. The generous assistance of the Student Aid Fund will help me in pursuing my goal of a major in international relations. I hope one day to attend law school and pursue a career with the State Department or in international law. I am a native of Colorado with Hungarian ancestry. I graduated from Smoky Hill High School in Aurora, Colorado, where I received a diploma through the academically rigorous International Baccalaureate program and where I was a member of the National Honor Society.
