Page 16 TESTVÉRISÉG U.S. HOUSE INTRODUCES FLAG PROTECTION AMENDMENT On Thursday, February 13, H.J. Res. 54, a proposed flag protection constitutional amendment was introduced in the United States House of Representatives by Congressmen Gerald Solomon (R-NY) and William Lipinski (D-IL). The amendment reads: Congress shall have power to prohibit the physical desecration of the Flag of the United States. At introduction, 204 House members were listed as original co­sponsors. W* . V; ­Four days before its introduction, the bill had 120 co­sponsors; as of March 14, 1997, it has 251. Therefore, the work of the Federation and of all those who helped to convert House members from “supporters” and “undeclared” to original co-sponsors really paid off.
