FRATERNITY Page 15 beszélt a béke és a rend helyreállítása érdekében. Szomáliában még mindig szokatlan a nő vezetőbeosztásban. Ő azonban rátermettsége elismeréséül tisztelettel a “Mr. Helen” nevet kapta a Szomáliái alkalmazottaktól. PITTSBURGH AREA NEWS The Executive Committee of the American Hungarian Churches and Societies of western Pennsylvania held its annual meeting in the Hazelwood Hungarian Social Club on Saturday, January 14, 1995. Since the reorganization last January, the membership is increased and the many reports delivered at the meeting testify of the many activities. Tremendous applause greeted the newly appointed delegate of the St. Stephen R.C. Church, which became a worship site in October, 1993. The delegates unanimously applauded the ecumenical gesture of Father Neil McCaully, the rector of the St. Stephen parish. The appointment of Mr. Kujbos, the delegate of the former St. Ann church, is a promising sign that true ecumenicity is alive in the Hazelwood area. Equally important is the appointment of William Kohut, the great benefactor of all American Hungarian activities, as the delegate of St. Elias Byzantine Rite Church of Munhall, Pennsylvania. Dr. Aladar Komjáthy praised the collective leadership of our nationwide fraternal organizations, that of Elmer Vargo of the William Penn and Endre Csornán of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of American which made this organization possible. Since the reorganization more than twenty American Hungarian churches and societies joined the organization. The Presidential Report called Kati Csornán, Mrs. Nagengast, Manager of Branch 235, Pittsburgh area, as the true woman of the year 1994, who played major part at the three important events of the year being the main speaker of the March 15th celebration and the Kossuth Pilgrimage and the master of ceremonies at the October celebrations. Mr. Elmer Vargo, the President of William Penn Association, reported on the highly successful Kossuth Pilgrimage, which was attended by more than three hundred American Hungarians, not only from the Pittsburgh area, but also from Erie, Pennsylvania, several cities of Ohio and even Montreal, Canada. Mr. Endre Csornán, National Secretary of the HRFA, reported on the commemoration of the Darr Mine catastrophy, which was the largest mining disaster in 1907. Most of the Hungarian victims aged 17-35 had been members of both fratemals. The Pittsburgh Nagybizottsag, HRFA and William Penn were very well represented at this event which was held on Labor Day Saturday. Mr. William Kohut reported the good news that the Hungarian Radio Program of Dr. Victor Molnár will be heard again on the radio. This program was sorely missed in the Pittsburgh area. Mr. Kohut also made a report on the St. John’s Cathedral project, in which our organization has a major part in the leadership. The project is to save the masterful work of the famous architect Titus de Bobula, leading architect in the Pittsburgh area (and also architect of the First Hungarian Reformed Church of Pittsburgh, Pa.). Mr. Arpad Simon, Treasurer since 1978, presented a very favorable report. Mr. Bert Olah, Secretary, read the minutes of the reorganizing meeting with the adopted new by-laws masterfully edited by the temporary secretary of the 1994 meeting. The favorable financial condition of the organization permitted the Executive Committee to entertain the entire membership. The meeting also endorsed the proposal of the president to urge the publisher to republish the highly significant work of Professor Bela Vardy on the American Hungarians and their history. Bert Olah. Secretary and Manager of Br. 203
