Page 4 TESTVÉRISÉG FROM THE OFFICE of the SECRETARY The year of 1993 is almost behind us with fond memories as we look towards the New Year. The Claims and Underwriting Departments had a very busy year. On production level there was not as much participation as we would have liked and anticipated. We dealt with many claims and surrenders. Attempts were made to retain those members surrendering by offering them a loan or newer policy. The District meetings were held in New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana, and Illinois. All meetings were well attended and informative instructions were given to the groups by the respective National Officers as well as Directors. During the year, there were many branch activities, outings, picnics, and fund raisers. Here, I would like to mention the Indiana Kossuth Club Picnic, the Maria Poes Picnic and the 7th Annual Ligonier Picnic. The Spring Board of Directors Meeting and the Fall Meeting were well attended and many plans and some changes were recommended or instituted. Our main concern still remains the membership decline. I am happy to report that some of our Board Members are top producers and others are good representatives of the Federation. Recruiting new Agents or replacing Branch Managers is becoming increasingly difficult. It is a challenge to find new, dedicated fraternal persons to do positive promotional work for the Federation. However, we were successful in Pennsylvania. In October, I had the opportunity to attend the National Fraternal Congress of America in San Antonio, Texas. This, again, was a very informative meeting. The “Membership Standard”, a controversial proposal bill, was voted on and passed. I gained much knowledge by discussing some of our mutual problems with other fratemals. During the year, I attended many affairs and met with some of our field force personnel. Together we learned many things and exchanged new ideas with one another. It was indeed a privilege to visit many churches and meet new faces as well as renew old friendships. A hearty welcome and my fraternal greetings to all new Branch Managers and Agents. A big “thank you” to all brethren for their fine service and dedication. We are extremely proud of them and their accomplishments. What transpired in 1993 is now history. It is time to look to the future with new hope and determination. During the year, I had the privilege of working with the dedicated personnel of the Home Office. I wish you and your family members much happiness at Christmas, a blessed New Year and may God be with you always.
