FRATERNITY Page 5 FALL MEETINGS in LIGONIER, PA Each year in September, Ligonier, PA is the meeting place of the Board of Directors of the Bethlen Home as well as the Board of Directors of the HRFA. This year again, following Labor Day weekend, the meeting of the Board of Directors of the Bethlen Home was held on Wednesday, September 8, followed by the meeting of the Board of Directors of the HRFA on September 9-10, 1993. On Friday, September 10, the last day of the meeting, the board was joined by members of the Field Force and Fraternal Activities committee. Three major resolutions were adopted by the Board of Directors of the HRFA, namely: 1. Re: Yield on Investment. Since the yield on bond investments has been sharply decreasing for the past two years and bond redemption is becoming a household word in the insurance industry (20% of our bond investment was called by the respective institutions prior to maturity date), it was resolved that the Executive Committee be authorized to diversify our investment portfolio and invest $1.5 million in the stock market. This $1.5 million represents 6.8% of our total assets. 2. Re: Appointment of the new Legal Advisor of the Federation. From a well-qualified group of candidates, the Board, through a secret ballot, elected William B. Puskas, Jr., Esq., as the new legal advisor of the Federation. Mr. Puskas will assume his position on January 1, 1994. 3. Re: Insurance Portfolio. Based on the recommendation of our Actuary, the Board resolved to change the rates of our Single Premium Whole Life Policy. The increased rate goes into effect on January 1, 1994. The Board also authorized the Executive Committee to introduce a “Semi-Endowment” policy paid till age 65. This policy combines life insurance with savings for retirement. Endre Csornán, Secretary 1993 ANNUAL MEETING of the AMERICAN HUNGARIAN REFORMED Presbyter’s Association On September 5th and 6th, the 47th annual meeting of the American-Hungarian Reformed Presbyters’ Association was held in Ligonier, PA at the Bethlen Home Conference Room. About 75 persons were in attendance, representing 29 Churches, including the Bethlen Home. Bishop István Mészáros of Hungary preached in Hungarian, and Rev. Dr. John Bütösi, President of the Hungarian Reformed World Federation, delivered the sermon in English. At the meeting, the delegation was working, among others, on plans for the Hungarian Reformed World Federation Conference in 1996. The Executive Council will meet next year in Erdély, Romania, on July 5-7, 1994. After the meeting, I was approached by Mr. Tibor Balia, secretary of the Hungarian Reformed Presbyters’ Association, asking if a World Presbyters’ meeting would be possible following the Council meeting in July of 1994. I indicated that it was agreeable with me. All of our American-Hungarian Reformed Presbyters will be notified if it becomes a reality. Paul J. Szaniszlo, President, American Hungarian Reformed Presbyters’ Association The oath of office is administered to the Members of the Board of Directors of the Bethlen Home by President Dózsa
