FRATERNITY Page 13 heritage since the reign of St. Stephen and that it will be important for them to honor and carry on this heritage, especially now that a new era has come. In Cleveland, OH, the children experienced another peak event with a most enthusiastic audience of more than 700, with flowers for everyone and presentations from the city and the county. Cleveland also raised the most money for the Heart Foundation through special contributions and a program book. Local chairperson Kati Kapossy (Br. 4) did an outstanding job along with Frank Dobos, László Kernes (Br. 352), Yolan Abel (Br. 4) and many others. The Magyar Club sponsored a poolside party after the concert and the Hungarian Scouts performed for the visitors. The Detroit area provided several opportunities for the groups to perform. On Sunday morning, the Cantemus Children's Choir presented musical offerings at the Allen Park Reformed Church, where Rev. Imre A. Bertalan is pastor, while the orchestra offered several selections at the Hungarian Mass at Holy Cross Church (Fathers Fuzer and Vendel). The choir joined the orchestra toward the end of the mass to the joy of the church attendants. The afternoon brought excitement to the Hungarian Festival in Wyandotte, MI. The choir and orchestra opened the Festival on both days with the Hungarian and American anthems. Several performances were given during the day both on stage and in the hall. Mr. Mahar, Chairman, arranged for a number of wonderful memento gifts for the children, including a medal of the city which was placed around their necks. East Chicago was the final stop and an exciting evening gave everyone a chance to bid the children farewell. The beautiful setting of the Center for the Visual and Performing Arts was the site of the concert attended by approximately 500 people. The children were hosted for dinner by the Holy Trinity Church (Father Skerl) and all arrangements were made by the local branches of the HRFA, Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Kovács (Br. 62) and Mr. Gyula Simon (Br. 176). After 17 performances and the many, many long hours of travel, it was a difficult and long ride back to the Scenic View and then to New York for final departure. A nice surprise awaited the children when Steve Yelencsics gave each one them a miniature replica of the bus on which they had spent so many hours and which took them to so many different places. All that is left now are the beautiful memories and the hope that the young performers will come back again someday. Elizabeth Szabó, Coordinator VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL IN ALLEN PARK It was an "Island in the Son" that nearly 80 young people and 40 teachers and support staff visited in June at the Hungarian Reformed Church, Allen Park, Michigan. Using 1 Corinthians 13 as the textual basis, the children and adults spent two weeks learning more about God's love for us and about the type of love we should share with other people. Each day of the two week school began with a program of singing and a puppet show, which acted out the theme for the day. Next followed Bible Study and classroom time, crafts, games and, of course, snacks. Each day's program closed with young people reciting the Bible verses they learned that day. Several of the classes visited homebound church members and those living in one of the nursing homes. An offering was taken each day which was donated as camp scholarship money for innercity children. On the evening of the last day, students and parents gathered for a fun-filled closing program. The children sang for their parents, recited Bible verses and in other ways, shared their good experience at Vacation Bible School. Following the program in church, the more than 100 people present enjoyed an ice cream and fruit reception, hosted by the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America. Branch 35 President and National Board Member, Samuel Vespremi and Branch Director, Mrs. Ethel Teghze Gerber greeted the young people and presented each one with a pen and a beautiful pin, also complements of the Federation. Indeed our two weeks together affirmed again the truth of 1 Corinthians 13:13: "And now abide faith, hope, love . . . but the greatest of these is love." We thank God. Rev. Imre A. Bertalan, Pastor Some of the youngsters at the closing program.
