FRATERNITY Page 17 BRANCH NEWS BRANCH 1-BRIDGEPORT, CT On Sunday, February 18, 1990, the Annual Meeting of Branch 1 was opened, with a prayer, at 10:45 a.m. by Mrs. Margaret Csuka in the absence of the Branch President. There were five branch members present. The date of the branch meeting had been announced for several weeks, so the poor attendance was a disappointment. In the absence of the President, I was asked to conduct this meeting. We extended the best wishes of our National Officers and Board Members to the members present. We thanked Mr. John Koi, the former Branch Manager, for his many years of dedicated service to the HRFA. Thanks were also extended to Mrs. Margaret Nagy, the widow of John Nagy, also a former Branch Manager. We welcomed Mrs. Csuka as the new Branch Manager, and wished her many years of faithful service to our fraternal organization. She has done a commendable job in managing the business of Branch 1. An interesting discussion followed regarding our Insurance Portfolio, the difficulty in selling insurance, and the need for branch members to act as "finders" for the Branch Manager. I shared our printed pamphlets with the members, and also gave them a copy of a "Dear Abby" article which reinforced the need for life insurance. Following the discussion period, the election of Branch Officers for 1990 took place. Elected were: John Koi, President; Margaret Nagy, Vice President & Comptroller; Ella Racz, Secretary; Robin Racz, Treasurer. I administered the "Oath of Office", as printed in our By-Laws, and congratulated the elected officers on behalf of the HRFA. The meeting was adjourned at 12 Noon. It was an honor for me to attend this meeting. Even though only a few members were present, a sense of support and cooperation was evident. Suzanne S. Virgulák, Vice President —Board of Directors BRANCHES 3 & 39-FAIRPORT HARBOR AND ASHTABULA, OH The Branch President and Manager, Ed Bihary, called the annual meeting to order at 2:00 p.m. on February 11, 1990. Rev. Louis Medgyesi gave the opening prayer. A moment of silence was held for those dear departed members. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and accepted. The treasurer's report was approved. We have a healthy balance! Vice President Elizabeth Medgyesi reported on fraternal activities. Our Hungarian "Gulyas" dinner was a great success. The proceeds of this dinner were used to purchase personal gifts for the 12 youngsters who attended our Christmas Party. Both functions were well attended. We had a "szalonna sütés" which made for a great picnic. Fellowship was enjoyed with friendly competition with various forms of cookers. Director Rev. Louis Medgyesi reported on the Ohio project. This is now dead. Local people did not show interest. We are requested to seek new members into the fraternity. We will have a "Gulyas" dinner again as a fund raiser with the proceeds to be used to purchase Christmas gifts. We will also have our own local picnic and bacon roast to be held on August 19, 1990. And there will also be a Christmas Party in December. The planning meeting will be on May 20,1990. At the same time Ed Bihary urged members to update their policies when married or to change beneficiaries when needed. The following were elected officers for 1990: Edward Bihary, President; Elizabeth Medgyesi, Vice President; James Varga, Treasurer; Elizabeth Ticel, Secretary. The meeting adjourned with refreshments. We thank the Fairport Harbor Hungarian Reformed Church for its hospitality. Edward Bihary, Branch Manager BRANCH 4—CLEVELAND, OH The meeting was called to order by Branch Manager Jolán Abel on February 10, 1990. Silence was held for the two members of the branch that had passed away: Mrs. Joseph David and Mrs. Steven Gnadt. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Mrs. Abel then discussed and explained the new policies that were available.
