FRATERNITY Page 17 ation of America. Rev. Bertalan greeted the officers and thanked the Cleveland West Side Hungarian Reformed Church for graciously hosting the meeting. He stated that we must have a rebuilding of the Federation at the local level, and that we must return to having activities at the local level. Ideas must be created on the local level to encourage this bond between our Hungarian friends. He stated that the Federation is now 90 years old, and the Church and the Federation, in the past, have held meetings together, and worked in and around the church as one. We need to meet as an individual group, and hold our own activities. We must develop Fraternal life in our branches. Rev. Bertalan reported that Kossuth House was sold 8 years ago, which was a tragic mistake. We have just purchased and returned to a building in Washington, DC, which we rededicated “Kossuth House.” We must also rededicate the local branches to the fraternal fellowship of the past. The Federation has built many churches in our country, and has also helped build and purchase many homes for our members through loans. This building process must continue on the local level. Rev. Bertalan said that he will have $300.00 seed money sent to the local treasury. This money should be used by our branch to grow on, through activities and fund raisers. We must show our “Faith in Action.” He asked us to remember the motto of our Federation, “If God be with us, who can be against us.” Rev. Bertalan thanked former managers Andreas Tabor, László Kernes and Sándor Szabadkai for their dedicated service to the local branch. He welcomed Edward Bihary as the new Branch Manager. Pres. Tatar thanked Rev. Bertalan for his message, and expressed our thanks for his presence at our meeting today. The next order of business was the election of officers for 1987. László Kernes asked that future meetings be held later in the afternoon. Sándor Szabadkai moved that we not have the election today, because some people were not notified of the meeting. Branch manager Edward Bihary said that he sent notices to all the families, and was sorry if he missed any members. Mrs. Irene Elek, the church secretary, stated that the meeting had been announced three times in church bulletins, also, and that every Sunday there is some kind of activity on the church property, and this time and date was the best avail able for our meeting. Mr. Szabadkai withdrew his motion. The following were nominated and elected to office: Andy Tatar, president; Aladar Solymosi, vice president; Andreas Tabor, treasurer; Irene B. Elek, secretary; Ibolya Daroczy & Goldie Maxim, comptrollers. Rev. Bertalan asked that the branch make Rev. Aaron Elek Honorary President of Branch 352. It was so moved and carried. Pres. Tatar asked for ideas on activities for the coming year. We voted to have a family picnic and bacon roast on Sunday, August 9, 1987. We will invite all members and their friends. Plans were discussed for Fund raisers. We will have a program for the church Sunday School closing. We will also participate in the Christmas Party for the children of the church. Ed Bihary thanked those who came, and explained that the Federation now has new low rates, and we must get the word to our people and friends. He asked for the participation of all the members in the upcoming activities. He also answered questions for members on their problems and policies. Refreshments were served following the meeting. Irene B. Elek, secretary Jana Pacas, a member of Branch #352 of Cleveland, Ohio, is receiving a check in the amount of $300.00 as a Student Aid Gift from President Imre Bertalan of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America. Jana is a member of the Cleveland West Side Plungarian Reformed Church and has been active in the youth fellowship there, serving at various officer positions. She is presently a sophomore at Cleveland State University, majoring in Liberal Arts. We encourage our members to
