5. SZ. OSZTÁLY - Bethlehem, PA MAGYAR TANYA

A Philadelphia és Környéke Magyar Sportegyesület 24 éve működik, mint államilag bejegyzett, adómentességet élvező szervezet. Ök építették ki a Magyar Tanyát Hereford, PA közelében egy 120 angol holdas területen. A Dunántúlra emlékeztető szép vidék bővizű patakkal, pisztrángokkal és tóval kedvenc kiránduló és nyaraló helye a keleti part magyarságának. Önkéntes munkával alakították át a 130 éves kőházat szép klubházzá.

Az Egyesület célja az ifjúság bekapcsolása és magyar öntudatának fenntartása, éppen ezért a helyi IO. sz. Jedlik Ányos cserkészcsapatnak Fenntartó Testületé. A cserkészek a 48-as Leövy Klára leánycserkészcsapattal karöltve hétvégi magyar iskolát tartanak fenn. Az Egyesület igazgatóságában számos 20-30 év közötti fiatal is helyet foglal. Nemcsak egyik fenntartója a Philadelphiai Magyar Rádiónak, de bemondója is az Egyesület fiataljai közül kerül ki.

Adela Balogh és férje Bálint átadják a Református Egyesület a Magyar Tanya magyar iskoláját támogató adományát Sofrid Józsefnek, a Magyar Tanya elnökének.

A gyönyörű erdei tisztáson épített 75 x 35 láb nagyságú uszodával, kényelmes öltöző helyiséggel, 6 ízlésesen berendezett vendégszobával a távolabb lakó vendégek nyaralási lehetőségét is biztosítani akarják. One of our young members, Aladar Komjáthy, through the efforts of Senator McManimon was instrumental in having the New Jersey State Senate pass Resolution 52: a SENATE RESOLUTION deploring the actions of the ROMANIAN GOVERNMENT insofar as it DENIES the HUMAN RIGHTS of the HUNGARIANS in TRANSYLVANIA.... Referring to the 1975 Helsinki Final Act of the CSCE, which guarantees the human rights of citizens and indicating the Romanian Government’s closing of Hungarian language schools, etc., Resolution 52 resolves “ — The Senate deplores the activities of the government of the Socialist Republic of Romania in denying the human rights of the Hungarians and people of other nationalities in Transylvania; — The President and Vice President of the United States, the Secretary of State of the United States and the chairman of the House Hunman Rights Caucus are requested to discuss the issue of human rights of the Hungarians in Transylvania, including the right of national self-determination, with the government of the Socialist Republic of Romania and with other appropriate governments.”

Copies were sent to all members of Congress also. Perhaps your branch or community would be interested in starting such action within your state. Just think of the impression that would be created if several more states brought such or similar resolutions! If you are interested, we will send you a copy of the entire resolution. All you need to do is to interest your congressman!
