Page 12 TESTVÉRISÉG BRANCH 31 & 168 - LORAIN, OH The May meeting of the branches honored Mrs. Lehel Tyukody who was 90 years old on May 15, 1983. Mrs. Tyukody was born Elizabeth Szucs in Szatmar megye, Czeke, Hungary, on May 15, 1893. She came to the United States in 1912. She married Lehel Tyukody on December 16, 1913; thev had three children, Louis, Elsa and Margaret. Her husband died December 6, 1983 after 67 years of marriage. Her hobbies were baking, cooking, gardening, crocheting, and reading every chance she had. She loves poetry and music. Congratulations and best wishes for continued good health! In June, all the members of the Lorain Hungarian Reformed United Church of Christ and the membership of Branch 31 were proud that their member. Dawn Salva was crowned Lorain International Queen from a field of 38 candidates in the 17th annual International Princess Pageant at the Palace Civic Center. Miss Salva, daughter of Joseph and Dolores Salva (the entire family are members of the UREA) entered the pageant as a Hungarian princess sponsored bv the church. Flic princess was born in Lorain. Her grandfather and great grandfather were born in Hungary and came to this country bringing with them memories about life there. “I was born into a house filled with four generations of Hungarians. Mv younger years were filled with tales of the old country and of its simple, yet majestic ways. They brought with them many wonderful memories of their farm, the beautiful mountains. It was through my grandfather that I developed a sense of pride in my background.” A 1983 graduate of Avon Lake High School, Dawn was a member of the National Honor Society, played in the school bands and was a member of the “Merplcs” — an eight member barbershopstvle chorus. She was also music editor for the school yearbook. Dawn plans to make music her life’s work and will enter Ohio State University’s music theatre program. Congratulations! Sincerely, Michael Abel, Ohio State University BRANCH 50 - BUFFALO, NY I’he members of Branch 50 arc verv proud of Gizella Szajer who has been a member since childhood and was a performer at the community A larch 15th observance. Gizella Szajer writes: I am 14 years of age. I presently attend Hamburg Junior High School; in the 9th grade. I am active in the Latin Club, orchestra and choir. Mv main interest is music so, therefore, my hobbies are playing the violin and piano. Outside of school I enjoy folk dancing and attending Hungarian Scouts. Mv future goals arc to finish schooling and enter the field of pharmaceuticals. Our family of members arc happv to acknowledge the aims and goals of each and everv member and wish Gizella much success. We know we’ll hear about her in the near future. Members bid farewell to Dr. and Mrs. Daniel Vizsolyi who have moved to Cleveland, Ohio. They will be sorely missed by the entire community. The new branch manager is Mrs. Elvira Petrv who will handle branches 72 and 149 also. Welcome Mrs. Petrv.
