\ On June 4th the Hungarian Reformed Church in Allen Park, *Sp®^ <**r ^*c^*San held a mortgage burning thanksgiving service. The sermon ■ Jll M. i' ä was preached by Rev. Tibor Toth, ' pastor emeritus from Daytona ■,'^k Beach, Fla. Rev. Toth is also an honorary director of the HRFA. Following the afternoon service a banquet was held in the fellowship hall attended by 500 persons. Twelve years ago the congregation made the decision to sell the old church buildings and build a new sanctuary and fellowship hall in Allen Park, Michigan. The congregation made the courageous decision to take a mortgage loan from the HRFA for which the monthly installment payment was $2,300.00. With the help and blessings of God the congregation made the last payment on the 15 year mortgage in January, 1978. The church members and organizations worked hard to meet the monthly payments on the loan. The congregation also built a beautiful parsonage and repaid the mortgage loan in the same year to the HRFA. The president represented the HRFA at the banquet. It is a pleasure to congratulate the pastor, the newly elected Bishop Dezső Abraham (Vice-President of the HRFA) and the congregation at the mortgage burning celebration. Last year the residents of the Bethlen Home made various items of craft and held their bazaar on the hill. Some of us knew about it and donated an article or two. This year the bazaar will be held on Saturday, August 26, 1978 at the Heritage Methodist Church located in the square. Festivities will start at 10 A.M. and conclude at 4 P.M. As this is a project that benefits the home we ask the support of our members and friends in the branches and churches. At our district meeting Mrs. Joseph Molnár, Jr., wife of our District Manager offered to support the bazaar and she will ask the members of the branches in the area to donate Hungarian pastries, noodles, craft, etc. If the members in this district wish more information and would like to donate to the bazaar, please contact Mrs. Joseph Molnár, Jr., telephone 421-6733; Mrs. Ethel Nagy, wife of our Board of Director: 466- 0553 or Mrs. Helen Szuch, wife of one of our Vice- Presidents: 342-2946. Branch members, ladies societies, Martha Circle and Guilds should put the Bethlen Home on their list of projects for this year. Deliver or mail all items to the administrator, Rev. Paul Kovács before August 26th. Let us show the old folks of our compassion toward them by sending articles in order to make the Bazaar a great success. The Portland String Quartet The Portland String Quartet has been performing internationally since its inception in 1969, appearing in concerts and conducting residencies on college campuses throughout North America, South America and Europe. Its subsequent reputation has moved this quartet to the front rank of touring ensembles. It received excellent write-ups from The Washington Star, The Miami Herald, O Estado de Sao Paulo (Brazil), and The Honolulu Star-Bulletin. The first-violinist of this internationally heard and respected musical ensemble is Stephen Z. Kecs- kemethy, a member of our Federation since childhood. Other members of the group are: Ronald Lantz second violin, Julia Mosely viola, and Paul Ross violincello. Stephen Kecskemethy is the younger son of the Rev. and Mrs. Joseph Kecskemethy of Portland, Maine. Rev. Kecskemethy served as superintendent of our Bethlen Home from 1944-1956 and as National Secretary of our Federation from 1956-1968. We heartily congratulate our young artist member, Steve and wish him continued success in his art and musical career. In the meantime we rejoice with his good parents upon the outstanding accomplishments of their wonderful son in Musical America and many other countries. — FRATERNALISM IS A FAMILY AFFAIR — LET US ALL PLAN FOR FINANCIAL SECURITY THROUGH LIFE INSURANCE COVERAGE WITH OUR FEDERATION! 6
