MINUTES OF THE TWENTY-NINTH CONVENTION OF THE HUNGARIAN REFORMED FEDERATION OF AMERICA held in the Holiday Inn, Ligonier, Pennsylvania June 26-30, 1972 FIRST DAY Monday, June 26, 1972 (Continued from last issue) 11. Greetings from the American Hungarian Federation were extended by Dr. Louis Fury, National General Secretary, also in the name of Judge Aladar Fiok, President of the Federa­tion, who was unable to come. 12. President Beky introduced the invited representatives of the American Hungarian Press, Mr. Zoltán Gombos, Mr. László Dienes and Mr. Jeno Szebedinszky. Mr. Gombos spoke briefly; so did the Rev. Dr. Aladar Komjáthy who conveyed fraternal good wishes from the United Church of Canada. 13. The Rt. Rev. Louis Nagy, Superintendent of the Beth­len Home, welcomed the Convention as the representative body of the Home’s parent organization. 14. President Beky saluted the Nestor of Hungarian Re­formed ministers, the Rt. Rev. Dr. Francis Újlaki, past presi­dent of the Federation. Dr. Ujlaki’s words of love were re­ceived by the Convention with a standing ovation. 15. President Beky welcomed the following persons invited by the Board of irectors as guests of the Convention: Advisory mDembers: the Rt. Rev. Louis Nagy, Superinten­dent of the Bethlen Home, Dr. Paul G. Harsanyi, Medical Di­rector, Alex B. Eger, Jr., Legal Counsellor, Bennett Koppelman and Alvin Eglow, Accountants; Honorary Members of the Board of Directors: the Rt. Rev. Dr. Francis Újlaki, Judge Albert A. Fiok (not present), Gazel Veszprémi; Oldest former officer: Imre Király; Board of Managers of the Bethlen Home: the Rev. Aaron Elek, the Rev. Louis Illés, the Rev. Stephen Csutoros, the Rev. Kalman Csia; Field Representatives who filled a high percentage of their quotas; for the entire duration of the Convention: Dr. Tibor Halo, Dr. Tibor Köss (not present), Joseph Molnár, Jr., Mrs. Emma Oris; for three days: Joseph Arnosky, Tibor Dolinszky (not present), László Kernes, William Puskas, Albert St. Mik- lossy, Dr. Antal Vivzian, Rev. Bertalan Negyessy and Mrs. Emma Aros; From the Home Office Staff: Bela Toth, Miss Elizabeth Balazs, Gyula László. 16. Controller László Eszenyi conveyed greetings from Dr. Ferenc Horvath, former Medical Director, and Mrs. Janos Csorba, who are both seriously ill. Convention voted to return their greetings with its sincere good wishes. 17. Controller László Eszenyi submitted the Board of Di­rectors’ recommendation in regard to fees and travel expenses for the members of the Convention as follows: a) a flat fee of $500.00 to each accredited member of the Convention; b) two days of travel allowance of $70.00 per day; c) 15 cents per mile for actual travel; accredited members from California and Florida to receive first class air fare in lieu of mileage allow­ance. This recommendation was made in both, English and Hungarian. Upon further clarification The Convention voted to accept this recommendation and to pay the recommended fees and travel allow­ances to all accredited members of the Convention including the advisory members and other invited guests, the recording secretaries as well as the field representatives invited for the entire duration of the Convention while the field representativees invited for three days will receive $100.00 per diem plus the regular travel allowances. Upon an explanation given by Treasurer St. Miklossy the Convention accepted that $200.00 would be paid in cash, the rest by check. 18. President Beky ordered a recess at 4:30 and reopened the Plenary Session at 5:08. After announcements concerning the evening banquet Vice President Stephen Syposs took the chair at 5:12. After a brief discussion on whether the reports of the various officers should be read or not, it was eventually pointed out that according to the By-Laws the reading of such reports is mandatory. Therefore two motions, one to read and the other not to read the reports, respectively, were ruled out of order by the chair. 19. President Beky presented his official report. (Exhibit B-l Full text of all reports, in English or in Hungarian, some in both languages, were distributed previously among the Con­vention delegates.) The Convention unanimously accepted the President’s report as a whole and referred it to the respective committee for further discussion. 20. President Beky returned to the chair at 5:40. 21. Evening prayers were offered by the Rev. Gabor Csordás in Hungarian. After hymn singing President Beky adjourned the Convention at 5:45 until Tuesday morning, June 27, 9:15. President Beky then invited all members of the Con­vention together with their families to the official banquet of the Convention to be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn. CONVENTION BANQUET 22. The Convention Banquet which began at 7:30 at the Holiday Inn was presided over by President Beky who intro­duced the National Officers, the Directors, and several honored guests. Mr. Elmer Charles, President of the William Penn Fraternal Association, introduced members of his delegation adding Mr. Bela Kohut, Director, to those presented at the afternoon plenary session. 23. Vice President, Dr. Stephen Szabó announced that it was President Beky’s birthday. In celebrating this event the Rev. Imre Bertalan sang President Beky’s favorite song “Elin­dultam szép hazámból.” The Rt. Rev. Louis Nagy delivered the congratulatory greeting on behalf of all. 18
