Rt. Rev. Árpád George: From the Office of the Secretary WILLIAM PENN. The national Officers were invited to the William Penn’s 80th anniversary banquet held on September 15th in Pittsburgh, Pa. during their Convention week. Secretary George extended the greetings of the Federation and read the personal best wishes of President Beky. President Elmer Charles was happy to observe that our representation of National Officers and the speeches of the Secretary, Treasurer and Controller were personal testimonies and witnessings of the excellent brotherly relationship between the two national Hungarian fraternal organizations. NEW YORK. Our 75th anniversary celebration was held on September 26th at the 82nd Street New York Free Magyar Reformed Church. Pastor Gabor Csordás, László Dekany and Dr. Antal Yiczian made preparations to guarantee its success. Bishop Dezső Abraham preached the anniversary sermon and emphasized that the Federation was instrumental in helping the congregation to purchase and remodel the beautiful sanctuary and fellowship hall by the mortgage granted 12 years ago. Secretary George preached the anniversary sermon at the 69th Street 1st Hungarian Reformed church. Following the worship service 35 persons accompanied the Secretary to attend the anniversary banquet. We were also happy to welcome the 40 guests from the Coordinated Committee meeting in New York. More than 300 persons were served at the banquet. Mr. László Dekany worked hard for the artistic part of the program. As Master of Ceremonies he introduced the best Hungarian artists in New York who volunteered their services free of charge for the benefit of the Bethlen Home. The Treasurer and Controller made inspirational speeches for the Federation. The Secretary thanked the ladies for the fine meal served, extended the greetings of President Beky and gave a brief historical summary of the Federation. In accordance with the request of President Beky he also presented golden medals as the highest Federation award to: Rev. Gabor Csordás Dean, Rev. Paul Ferenczy, Alexander Csik, Andrew Kurimai director and Lajos Szeghy who is a member of the Federation for 58 years, in recognition for the outstanding services for the Federation. The music for the dance was furnished by Mr. Elmer Horvath and orchestra. COLUMBUS. The 65th anniversary service of the Columbus Hungarian Reformed Church was held on October 10th. Vice President Dr. Stephen Szabó preached the Hungarian and Bishop Arpad Beretz preached the English sermon. The Secretary said the pastoral prayer in English. At the banquet the Secretary extended the greetings of the Federation and read the special letter of best wishes written by President Beky. ATLANTIC CITY. The New Jersey Fraternal Congress was held on October 16th in Atlantic City. Secretary George substituting for President Beky opened the meeting with the prayer of invocation. Mr. Paul St. Miklossy extended the greetings of the Maryland and D. C. Fraternal Congress. He was also appointed Chairman of the Auditing Committee. He gave an excellent financial report as the head of the committee. President Beky received a special citation for his meritorious services rendered to the Fraternal Congress during the past years. LOS ANGELES. The Federation’s 75th anniversary celebration started in the morning. In the Los Angeles 1st Hungarian Reformed Church the Secretary preached the anniversary sermon at the morning worship service. The banquet was held in Van Nuys. The stage was artistically decorated by Mr. Joseph Zizda. Rev. Anthony Szabó substituted for Mr. Tibor Dolinszky as toastmaster. The table grace was said by Father Benedek Horvath. Frank Czene representing the Hungarian Freedom Fighters read the telegram received from Cardinal Mindszenty sent on the 15th anniversary of the Hungarian revolution for freedom. The following dignitaries and guests were introduced: Mrs. Anthony Szabó, Mrs. Albert Hady, Rev. Bertalan Negyessy, Rev. Julius Paal. Rev. Dezső Trombitás, Rev. Charles Heth- hahni as clergymen; Sándor Kovany, Imre Bodnar, Karoly Hangyassy, Howard Records, George Kelemen as chief-elders; Mrs. Tibor Hejjas, Sr., Mrs. Louis So- vincz, Mrs. George Varga, Ibolya Diem as presidents of tbe Women Guilds; Mrs. Margaret Saltzer and Mr. Bela Egry as local representatives of the Federation.
