President’s Report to the Board of Directors for the Year of 1970* Distinguished Members of the Board: Dear Brethren: IN MEMORIAM I wish to begin my report with respectful remembrance of that great man who is missing for the first time from this distinguished body since 38 years. This great man of such importance, the Rt. Rev. George E. K. Borshy, former secretary, president and finally vice-president of our Federation died suddenly on January 24, 1971. We are still under the shock of this great loss. The history of our Federation will remember George K. Borshy as one of the greatest leaders. He had a lion’s share in the successful growth of our Federation. In accordance with his wishes his funeral took place in Los Angeles. Due to my sickness I could not be present, our Federation was represented by the Secretary and the Controller. Bethlen Home was represented by the Superintendent. His distinguished services to our Federation were remembered in the latest issue of the Fraternity. We wish to pay him our final respects now. His memory will be remembered in our midst, not only in our fellowship as the Board of Directors, but in the greater fellowship of our entire Federation. Let us stand in prayerful remembrance of our dear brother for a minute. “EBEN-HAÉZER” Let us give thanks to Almighty God that He graciously led us to the 75th Anniversary of our Federation. “Eben-Haézer” — God was our help until now. This word of the Holy Scripture is in our thoughts as we remember His guidance and help during our 75 year history. His name be blessed forever! RESPECT TO THE FOUNDERS With respectful remembrance we recall the faithfulness of those founding fathers who “dreamt dreams and saw visions” — and organized our Federation 75 years ago. Today, it is the greatest Hungarian Reformed fraternal organization in the entire world with its assets surpassing 1 ő1/^ million dollars, 49 million insurance in force, with its Bethlen Home, Printing Press in Ligo- nier, and with its headquarters built in one of the most beautiful sections in the capital of our nation, Washington, D. C. Let the memory of the founders be ever blessed. * For the request of our English speaking members we publish the President’s Report also in English. SOLEMN PLEDGE Let us renew our solemn oath at this 75th anniversary, that we shall not only preserve and defend our sacred heritage, but we shall do our best to make it grow and progress in the future. We believe that the same God who preserved us in 75 years, will be with us in the future. At our 75th anniversary we call to mind the motto of our Federation: “If God is with us, who can be against us.” Our 75th anniversary will be remembered in the most solemn way. We shall hold thanksgiving services in all districts, we hold national festivals with membership campagins and youth “scholarship competitions”. The details of which will be discussed later. PERSONAL MATTER I regret that I have to mention a personal matter, which concerns me the most. The many problems and difficulties of the year 1970 afflicted not only me, hut also my fellow-officers. First the secretary, then I received a warning that our heavy workload and the many excitements may have serious consequences. Let us give thanks to Almighty God that I can present my report to you. It would be a good idea to give consideration to the many problems, the icredibly enlarged responsibilities of the officers which they have to face today. The increasing workload and responsibility causes the officers to work day and night. THE MOST SUCCESSFUL YEAR OF THE LAST DECADE The past 1970 year was one of the most successful years in the history of our Federation. In our growth in assets, evaluation, interest and for the first time in many years the growth of the dues surpassed our best hopes of which we are very happy to report: Insurance in force: December 31, 1969 ......................... ...$47,983,860.00 December 31, 1970 ......................... ...$49.305,061.00 Increase ......................... ...$ 1,321,201.00 Assets: December 31, 1969 ......................... $15,905,451.33 December 31, 1970 ......................... $16.430,165.22 Increase ......................... ...$ 524,713.89 Dues: December 31, 1969 ......................... ...$ 1,439.966.18 December 31, 1970 ......................... ...$ 1,448,431.51 Increase ......................... $ 8,465.33 Ratio of investment income: 1969 ......................... ... 4.59% 1970 ......................... ... 4.81% Valuation ratio: 1969 ........................ 112% 1970 ......................... 112.2% 19
