± “ONE NATION UNDER GOD” "One nation under God." That declaration in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, is the title of the educational program of Exchange Clubs which culminates in "One Nation Under God” Month each November. The program aims at making Americans more deeply conscious of the significance of religious faith in our national life, and bringing them to full awareness that only as "one nation under God” can we truly have "liberty and justice for all.” When the words "under God” were inserted in the Pledge by Act of Congress in 1954, President Eisenhower, in signing the Act, said they were intended to reaffirm the transcendence of religious faith in America’s heritage and future, and constantly strengthen those spiritual weapons which forever will be our country’s most powerful resource in peace and war. "One Nation Under God” Month, highlighted by Thanksgiving Day, is a perfect time to bring into clearer focus the transcendence of religious faith in America’s heritage, its present and its future. Above all, it is a time for God-fearing Americans to assume personal responsibility for a renaissance of high morals and ethical behavior in their own lives, their families, their communities, and the. nation.
