Rablógyilkosság áldozata lett Megyeri László egyesületi tagunk Az egész washingtoni magyarságot megrendítette az a rablógyilkosság, melynek áldozata Megyeri László Egyesületünknek 12 é- ve hűséges tagja lett. Nixon elnök “bűnös városnak” nevezte Washingtont, ahol naponta több rabló gyilkosság, betörés, rablás és becstelenség ...történik, mint az ország bármely ik más városában. Éppen ezért az uj kormányzat a legerélyesebb intézkedéseket lépteti életbe a bün- hullám megállítására. Megyeri László 12 évvel ezelőtt, mint szabadságharcos menekült ki Magyarországból. Washingtonban telepedett le, ahol jólmenő bútor üzletet nyitott. Február 4-én este egy 16 éves fekete suhanc állított be az üzletbe és egy színes Televízió után érdeklődött. Még meg sem mutathatta, amikor a rabló revorvert rántott és a Registerben lévő készpénzt követelte. Megyeri alig tett pár lépést mire a rabló hátbalőtte. A lövésre rohant elő Megyeri üzletben tartózkodó fia, aki mikor apját a földön látta revorvert rántott és a rablót 5 lövéssel leteritette. A megérkezett mentők úgy Megyerinek, mint a rablónak már csak a halálát állapították meg. Megyeri a washingtoni magyar társadalomnak egyik ismert és köz- megbecsülésben álló tagja volt. Minden nemes magyar megmozdulásból elsők között vette ki a részét. Temetése az egész washingtoni magyarság nagy részvéte mellett ment végbe. Egyesületünk tagságának részvétét Egyesületünk elnöke tolmácsolta. Legyen emléke áldott s az ittmaradottakon legyen Isten vigasztaló kegyelme. 14
