These, in addition to sponsoring many fraternal benevolent programs, write insurance on the lives of their members and families. The organization was founded on November 16, 1886. The purpose of the Congress is to promote the general welfare of fraternal benefit societies in all matters of mutual concern and public interest. The Congress also provides general information of the Fraternal Benefit System and lends assistance to all fraternal benefit societies. The total amount of insurance in force in the Fraternal Benefit System (as of January 1, 1961) was $14,235,390,279. The societies have more than ten million members throughout the United States and Canada. Fraternal benefit societies have paid out a total of $8,555,537,438 in benefits to members. The National Fraternal Congress of America comprises ten Sections and three Associations. The Sections include one for Presidents; Secretaries; Medical; Law; Press and Public Relations; Field Managers; Youth Counselors; Investment; Actuaries, and State Fraternal Congresses. Twenty-seven State Fraternal Congresses were represented in Cincinnati.
