FRATERNITY 5 JOSEPH KECSKEMETHY: ITEMS OF INTEREST The Annual Spring Meeting of the Supreme Council of our Federation was held in our Kossuth House from April 4 to 8. All of the directors, representing the various districts throughout the country, were present. As it has been done throughout the years, the meeting began with devotions, conducted by the President and the Secretary, and attended by all the members of the Supreme Council and the entire headquarters staff. The President’s welcoming words and his resume of the fraternal, cultural and social activities of the Federation during 1959 was followed by the Secretary’s report which emphasized the administrative and organizational work and the results of the intensive production and conservation program of the year. The Treasurer and the Auditor reported the details of the work in their departments. The reports of the Legal Counsellor, the Medical Director and the actuarial summary of last year’s results by the Accountant as well as the report of the Superintendent of the Bethlen Home were heard and discussed. The committees delved into their work earnestly for the next two days carrying out their examination of all the departments after which they presented their recommendations to the full session. Another important phase of the meeting was the presentation and discussion of the plans for the Quadrennial Convention which is to be held in Ligonier, Pennsylvania, from June 13 to 18. Detailed information pertaining to this will be published in our official magazine. The Annual Dinner at the Dupont Plaza was another highlight of the week when the members of the Supreme Council, the entire staff of the Kossuth House and their guests assembled for a social evening. At this year’s meeting we had the pleasure of having with us as guests the wives of some of the Council members and other friends of the Federation who took the opportunity to visit the Kossuth House and to tour beautiful Washington during its famous cherry blossom season. AN AFFAIR OF THE HEART For many years in the past, on the last Saturday evening of each January, the “Bethlen Home Committee” of the First Hungarian Reformed Church of Cleveland has sponsored benefit balls for the Bethlen Home in Ligonier, Penna. This year, however, these busy, charitable-minded, warmhearted people have decided to hold their dance on the evening of May 21 in the Bethlen Hall on the corner of Buckeye Road and East Boulevard. We remember with singular pleasure and appreciation the untiring efforts of the “old faithfuls” of this important annual affair: Mrs. Ficzeri, Mrs. Nyitray, Miss Volosin, Mrs. Gerlak and Mrs. Dula. It is gratifying to see among these people many new workers including the full staff of our Cleveland office and their wives. Each benefit ball has been truly an “affair of the heart” because during the months of preparation the committee has had but one goal in mind: love, service and sacrifice to help the dependent children and old folks of our Bethlen Home. Remember May 21 — Bethlen Ball at the Bethlen Hall, Cleveland, O.
